Well, this is your 1954 Kanuhsheta. For weeks and weeks we slaved in a bee hive of activity dashing hither and yon to record some of the memorable highlights of this school year! In these brief pages we have been able to give only a short summary of the educational progress Murphy High School has to offer its students And yet, we dare to hope that these pictures and paragraphs, brief and sketchy though they be, will serve their purpose in provoking pleasant memories of your school days. Whatever our troubles have been, we have sincerely enjoyed our work; and if you like our efforts, we shall feel repaid. So hurry up and see all of the book. We hope you think it‘s simply wonderful.

To the 1954 graduates of Murphy High School I offer congratula- tions, tinged somewhat with envy. You come upon the stage at a time when the speed and magnitude of action far outstrips any period of the past. Your potentialities for good or evil are highly magnified by the tools of power that are yours to command. In no previous period of history has it been so vitally necessary for survival that we know the right and choose to do it. We have tried to give you a true sense of moral values with the knowledge that they will be of immeasurable value to you. There are ninety of you in the graduating class. There were ninety-seven at the beginning of this year. Three hundred and five children started in the first grade that eventually produced this class. Your advantage in training carries with it a responsibility to pre- serve and strengthen the principles and ideals that have made this country the bulwark of freedom in the world.

dedication In grateful recognition of the indomitable spirit, sage council, and unflagging zeal which made this publication possible, the senior class presents this 1954 Kanuhsheta to Miss Maria Louise Travis. Her dedication of time and energy to this annual is ex- emplary of her service to the many students she has instructed. Endowed with many talents, and always willing to render service, she has made the Boomerang an interesting and vital school voice. Counselor, teacher, and friend, we, the Senior Class, thank you.
