activities The extra-curricular program in Munhall High School was designed to enrich the school life of the students and to develop in them the qualities of leadership, cooperation, initiative, and service. Through membership and active participation in the various clubs and organizations, the individual's social status was enhanced, and he was better prepared, upon graduation, to take his place in adult society and to actively engage in the life of the community.

This year iMunhall adopted the six-three-diree plan making Woodlawn the junior high school and Munhall the senior high school. As members of one of the largest classes in the history of Munhall, the sophomores, not to be outdone by upperclassmen, attained high scholastic standing and participated in many of the activities. The juniors spent their days preparing to take the responsibilities of being the oldest in the school. The seniors found their last year to be one of excitement and hard work, and it was with a sense of sadness but many fond memories of their high school years that they left Munhall to their successors. 5

sports Athletically inclined students at Munhall High found ample opportunity to perfect and display their skills in the school's varsity sports program. Seven varsity sports were offered during the 1962-1963 term. Far from an ordinary season, many events made the year memorable for senior athletes. Mr. Kliskey, twenty year head football coach, retired; the rifle team won the state and national tides; two swimmers, Bruce Phillips and Jim Gibson, swam in the Pennsylvania championship meets; wresder Tom Capp finished the regular season without a defeat and took second place in the Southwestern Regional PIAA tournament; the basketball squad defeated both of Munhall's rivals. Homestead and West Mifflin North, twice; the volleyball team journeyed into the semifinals for the WPlAI.title;the baseball team defeated section 14 champion McKeesport on its own field. Yes, the students at Munhall had every reason to be proud of the 1962-1963 sports season. 7
