Vi 0 ' 7 J Foreword He never wrote a book or amassed a great fortune; he never stood before kings or sat in the seat of the mighty; he never discovered a new element, invented a new engine, built a mighty bridge or designed a towering skyscraper. In the eyes of the material world he might well be called a failure. Yet men and women in every profession and vocation rise up to call him blessed and lovingly refer to him as “Max”. Since 1925 when Mr. Wherry took over the principalship of Munhall High School, hundreds of young men and women have left her “stately portals” to take their places as leaders and citizens, not only in Munhall but throughout the nation, even the world. To think of Munhall is to think of Mr. Wherry; for of the 7,244 young men and women who have graduated from Mur.hall since the first class in 1906, 6, 845 of them have known Mr. Wherry as principal, counselor and friend. As principal, Mr. Wherry has worked untiringly to make our school one of the best—provided with a faculty and curriculum which lay the foundation for any field as a student may wish to enter. As counselor he has always had time to sit down with a student and discuss his problem; it mattered not if the problem were a school or personal one. And no student has ever left such a conference without feeling that he has found in Mr. Wherry an understanding friend. No measure can ever be made of Mr. Wherry’s impact upon the world, for through the graduates of Munhall his influence encircles the globe. “Some men build bridges, Some build roads; These bring security and joy.” But Mr. Wherry has built the character Of Munhall’s girls and boys. And so it is with unbounding pride that we, the class of 1959, dedicate our Annual to Mr. Max Wherry, our principal, counselor and friend.
