RT D MUS C Art and music provide a language that is under- stood universally. They are fundamental natural activities of every child and should correlate with and strengthen other subject fields. They should never be thought of or dealt with as separate activi- ties, but as an integral part of all learning. Art and music experiences promote self realizaf tion of the whole individual hy integrating his imaginative, creative. intellectual and emotional ca- pacitiesg and these experiences encourage freedom of expression. They adord a foundation for voca- tional training for all students whose interest and aptitude may warrant their preparation for a pro- fessional career in some phase of art or music. The courses recognize the need for a relationf ship between the school and the democratic so- ciety. They provide a vital part of every area of living, whether it be in the rural community or in the industrial metropolis. Our school curriculum includes art and music in grades seven through nine. In tenth grade these courses are elective. Now there is 1 m in who enjovs his work. No wonder. DONALD C, BERNINGER lnsrrinnental Music Supervisor 'v -w xi . Y' .l ,nav - Zil- Q , . , ig!! , JEAN F.
