Srimtific 0112155 lilrnpherg HE members of the Seientifie Class were together for the last time. so far as we know, on Commem-ement night. On the day following we left for our various homes. Several years passed, during which time I had not seen any member of the class. Fortune having favored me I started for the Old VVorld to see the ''Olneraniinergaiif' With trunks. suit eases and hat boxes. I left my home early one bright morning for the Old W'orld. I had to ehange cars at Cincinnati and while spending my time looking about the city, whom should I meet but J. O. Baker, a prominent detective. Upon conversing with him I learned that he was trying: to eapture a wise oltl Fox HY. O. Foxy who was aceused of having stolen a stiek of peppermint candy from his wife. Upon resuming my journey, I saw a negro porter in the ear whose face seemed familiar to me. I watt-hed him closely for a short time, but did not reeotrnize him. At a small station east of Cincinnati the porter left the train to get lunch for an elderly lady. As it was raining in torrents he was reluctant to do so, and upon his return I saw the reason. The rain had washed the majority of the black from his faee. I recounized him instantly as the Foxlyl president of the Sm-ientiiie Class of M. N. I., the very Fox whom Mr. Baker had been hunting: We now recognized each other and began talking of our M. N. I. days. Ile also told me of his trouble with his wife. and that he had decided to eo home, pay his fine ot' two dollars and beg his wifes forgiveness. In a few minutes we reached New York. the city on the Hudson lKennethl. Mr. Fox left on the next train for Mays, Indiana. As the steamer Kuszmaul lliossl did not leave for Hamburg rntil the next day. I was left with a little tillle to visit the places of note in and about the city. I sailed up the Hudson to NVest Point and visited the Harrison tFloydl, which was in charge of Generals Logan tI'Ithell and liee lliora Earn.-srl, Captain Evans lli. Cl was detailed to escort me over the grounds and took me to visit Collins 4-I. Cl grave which was near. Returning to the city. and having important business to transact on Wall lFernl street. I went into a bank where I met a man who seemed to think that he was the ruler of the Nation lBI2il'j'l. The old llutter ll-Ilinerl tried to beat. me out of my money. but as that was not in Harmonryp fllrs, Dottl with my nature. I left for another bank on W'all lLuey,l street. I climbed to the Garrett tLorenl and found a Merriman llflonl in eliargre. with whom I soon transacted my business sueeegs- fully. I put up for the night at the Thatcher lliymaul House. While in the lobby before dinner, I heard a group of men talk- ing of a wonderful Singer lliester Everettl. a graduate of the Hobbs llflarrisonl t'onservatory of Musie, who was to appear for the last time at the Madison Square Harden before leaving' for Paris, They praised this singer so hiuhly that I decided to hear him. IIe was assisted in his entertainment by Elizabeth Bierley. Next morning- the Taylor lEval delivered the steamer cloak whieh I had ordered. I departed at onee for the wharf.
