Polltlcs Popular Wilh 'Purple eople' Electionsfor class officers ore held in the spring at C'.H.S., and last-minute campaigning is eiillent in the posters oroinzrl the voting booth. ,Willy A 7171 ftczrls, Judy Tlzoriiburg, Sfl1fll'lfil'!1VV, and Dare Sacks are in the process of casting ballots for their ft1z'orite ccinrlirlates. Purple politics and hospitality prevailed at Bearcatville when CHS'ers presented their opinions on various topics at the Indiana Student Legislative Assembly debate and entertained moms and dads at the Open Houses in their honor. Finalist debaters were classified in the senator, representative or alternate brackets after a debate held in the auditorium a few weeks before the stu- dent legislative assembly at Purdue University was held. Senator Alan Howard, junior, and Represent- atives Sharon Ann Bybee and Phil Greer each came home with honors for outstanding achievements. Politics also prevailed when Centralites voted for their choice guys or gals in class elections. Campaigns were held for each election and candi- dates strived to influence the voters in their direction with clever posters hung above the front doors. 'fSingin' sophsf, jivin' juniors and seven girls for Hsome seniors entertained at their respective Open Houses for parents. Refreshments were served afterward, and parents met their children's teachers before the program which each respective class held for them. Seniors gave their Class of 1960 affair in the fall, and during the holiday sea- son, juniors entertained with HSnowbound.u The class of '62 honored their parents in the spring this year.

Matty' parties and special programs were held by clubs and classes during the holiday season and throughout the year. Spanish and French classes had the benefits of oral practice when they gave Fhristmas skits in their language, while a Latin class witnessed some beatniks at their holiday at'l'air. lt was a race for candy when Spanish stu- dents broke the pinata, a container full of candy at their Yuletide party. Record hops, proms, balls-we danced hour after hour at club and class-sponsored dances throughout the year. We attended all types of festivities from informal record hops, with skirts, sweaters. shirts, and jeans, to dreamy, sto1'ybook proms with filmy gowns or starched, white shirts and impressive dark suits. A special hop was even highlighted by a prince and princess of comedy and tragedy. when Central's Thespians gave a sport dance with royal election ofthe reigners ol' the record romp. Jim Clevenger. junior, and Pat Hiatt. senior. Traditionally highlighting the spring season lor '60 were the Junior-Senior Prom and the Senior Ball, held in the Ball State Student Center, to round out our year of social events.
