English, history, civics, physical education-these are mustlies -courses required of all students. They are the requireds which any academic stu- dent may discuss in common with any vocational student. Aching muscles, wet, straggly hair and worked- up perspiration are all in a day's work for physical education and swimming students. The female species got into the swim this year for the first time when CHS gals had the chance to reveal their aquatic talents while completing their physical education requirement. Bearcatville residents, completing their English requirement, aimed for a space in the Literary Anthology which was edited by Jane Brown, jun- ior, coming on the Central scene for the first time this year. The 40-page student-written publication proved to be an outlet for creative English pupils. New methods of presenting new material in re- quired English classes were tried in two experi- mental groups in '60 with Mr. Clyde Allmon and Mr. Frank Stafford presiding. One method used was that of selecting a few mediocre and good themes and having the students discuss them. Also brand new to the English Department for ,60 were two teachers, Mrs. Mayro Porter and Mrs. Willimiene Hofherr. This year a junior U.S. History class 'Sbattled it out', with a senior civics class during a debate dis- cussing whether or not the United States will be a world power in 300 years. U.S. History and civics are included in the mustlies department, which was joined this year by Miss Adele Gingrich, a new instructor.
