MW.. gf e., ,,,, Q Q-.,,j,4,., Student Store Day brought many occupations closer to Cen- tralites. In her work at Ball Memorial Hospital, junior Caro- lyn Cranor was given the opportunity to examine blood in the blood bank. Just as store personnel take off for holi- days, Centralites took off for two special days during the year which came as a welcome relief to the monotonous routine of everyday study. Store Day gave students a chance to observe the goings-on of business establishments within Muncie and lend a hand with the running of these stores and the selling of their goods. Merchants hosted 260 Centralites this year in such vocations as hospital technology, store-clerking, newspaper reporting, and radio and television announcing. Reporting to work at 9:00, students were intro- duced to the store policies, instructed about prices and selling procedures, and then conducted to their positions in the store where they spent the re- mainder of the day. The fun day of the year, Field Day, as it is formally known, featured inter-class contests in almost all conceivable areas. The float division gives special challenge to girls who designed and decorated the floats. Games of skill for both boys and girls were judged by teachers while the queen and her attendants observed the activities. Store, Field Days Provide Diversity ' Wfxf, is A J. . ON wig Burrowing down staircases and bulldozing through the halls posed problems for 2,300 Centralites. Art students Jesse Walker lon thc ladderj and Larry Thompson mount a one-way sign for more roomy passage between classes. The result was an ef- fective improvement made with the cooperation of students. -nb el 3:15 Double lunch hours gave Central couples little opportunity to eat together at either 11:00 a. m. or noon. Helping Dana Huff- man off with her coat is friend Tod Miller. They meet and pass at the split lunch time with merely a Hi. ' or a small chat. Question No. 1: Do You Go 8 - 3 or 9 - 4? Where is the first place Centralites congregate when entering the building? The auditorium, naturally or unnaturally! A conglomeration of activities takes place once students are seated. Some study, some talkg others use the time catching-up on sleep. x. There've been some changes made around the crowded halls of Central. With approximately 2300 students, traffic in the halls and on the stair- ways was becoming too heavy to allow safe travel. Although seniors tried to relieve the congestion by selling tickets for their private escalator to unsuspecting green peas, school officials de- cided that a more efficient solution was needed. Such was the start of one-way stairs, which elim- inated the battle of the bulge between up-going and downward-bound students between classes. Staggered schedules proved inevitable haz- ards to lunch hour buddies who found themselves with different eating periods. However, those stu- dents who gained an extra hour of sleep by the 9 :00-to-4 :00 schedule rather than the 8 :00-to-3 :00 arrangement agreed that the change was a good one. Congregation in the auditorium in some cases was voluntary, in others mandatory. Staggered schedules caused students who arrived before 9:00 classes to wait in the auditorium. 17
