JUNIORS GENE SMITH President NORMA WINTERS, Secretary JUNIOR CLASS FLIGHT HE JUNIOR CLASS is composed of students who entered Central from the three junior high schools of Muncie in January and September of 1934. To the original group has been added many pupils from all over the country. Many embarrassing moments were experienced in our sophomore year. Most of our time that year was spent in becoming acquainted with the building, the faculty, and our classmates. We had an enjoyable sophomore mixer, gave three one-act plays, and received our share of awards. The Exchange Club furnished a speaker for a special chapel program and gave a ban- quet for our honor students. The American Association of University Women also spon- sored a chapel. Although we were not organized in our sophomore year, we had a representative committee which met with the chairman of our counselors, Miss Maude Michael, to plan our activities. In September 1935, we became juniors. Early in the semester we nominated oflicers. One open period these nominees made their campaign speeches with much trepidation. The next morning juniors voted for a president and a secretary. Gene Smith and Norma Winters were elected. Committees were appointed and began their duties. The play committee which con- sisted of Frances Johnson, Margaret Mills, Joe Lake, Mrs. Helen Cross, social sponsor, Miss Anna Marie Yates, and Miss Michael, counselor, selected The Million Dollar Joke. The play was a financial success and we certainly enjoyed giving it. The Kiwanis Club and Business and Professional Women's Club, junior class sponsors, furnished speakers for chapels. Other convocations were held for the purpose of ac- quainting us with high school courses. The Junior-Senior Prom, which was given May 8, was the climax of our social activ- ities. The committee consisted of Jack Keppler, chairman, Jean Bernard, Mary Frances Streeter, Bonnie Twigg, Norma Winters, Victor Rhyne, and Gene Smith.
