Volleyball... Dig It! In early October, volleyball coach Richard Smouse met with his team, which consisted of one senior, two juniors and eight brand-newcomers. He informed them they were all going to learn to dive and roll, a means in volleyball by which difficult balls are kept in play an a means by which elbows and knees are readily skinned. The team got the message. Dives and rolls meant hard work. They responded to Richard's announcement with a unanimous groan. Wanda Randall, this year's team captain, and Kathy Pimberton were the only two veterans who returned. Several other girls had played in church leagues, and the majority, as coach Richard Smouse said, had played aroundf' The team could have been described in one word: inexperienced.
