The ship is oT a one-sTack, Tlush deck design, displaces abouT I4,000 Tons when loaded, and is 460 TeeT long wiTh a 6I-TooT beam. Her mosT disTinguishing characTerisTics are The TwenTy-Tour landing craTT carried on her haTches. Cargo carried on board has en- compassed vehicles, weapons, raTions, and The Thousand and one oTher iTems needed To keep a modern army TuncTioning smooThly when hundreds oT miles Trom The nearesT basesoT supply. Hardly pausing Tor breaTh, The MULIPHEN goT underway Tor Siapan and combaT- loaded I52 men oT The Second Marine Division and 3,800 Tons oT Their equipmenT, She became a parT oT Task Force SI, aiding in The oiperaTion ThaT has been Termed The apex oT amphibious landings.
