The Senior Class of 1973 dedicates this issue of the Mulberry Tree to MR. ALVIN GRAHAM. As I sat watching a tree one day, a thought struck me: the branches of a tree can represent all the different peoples and races. Some branches are lower than others, but they are equal. The leaves are different, too, just as people are. And though each leaf is only a neighbor to a few other leaves, they all stem from one main body. They are broth- ers and sisters, just as we are. Funny, though, leaves never seem to be fighting or arguing . . . People?! Well . . . ! As I sat there, the breeze was some- times soft; other times, forceful. Every so often a leaf would fall off. Some leaves were brown. Others were green. The brown ones have been awaiting death, just as old people do. The green ones might not have been ex- pecting it, the same as young people. I wonder?! Were the leaves ready? Are we always prepared to die?! ■J0BD0 I BELIEVE in other people because they are in the same mess that I am. There are other people who have difficulty getting up in the morning; who put their pants on one leg at a time; who burn their toast, dash to school, and worry about being late every morning. I do that. There are other people who have trouble sticking to their diets; who feel in- secure; who flunk their driver’s test; who put off studying until the last day of the term; and who are always behind in their letter writing. I do that. emotions Other people and I have a great deal in common. If I can believe in myself, I can believe in other people. And, I guess, the inverse of my last statement is true, also. PEACE “■ Is not like A lake, glassy and blue. Nestled in a lonesome valley. rr. Peace Is not like A mountain, upholstered in trees, Far from the frantic bustle of the city Peace Is like A bird, calmly building its nest Over a waterfall, wild and roaring. Peace Is Serenity in the midst of turbulence. YOU LAUGH LOUDLY So do i. It makes me wonder what you’re hiding. I bet you cry some every day; Only no one sees— for the tears flow out of sight, yet never out of mind. Is this how it is or am I wrong? Are you really so strong that your laughter never hides your second self? People look at you and say you're exactly how they'd like to be And you just laugh and tell them no; But it's not modesty that makes you say it— It’s your weeping heart. QUESTIONS AND FEARS are not something to be ashamed of. They make us grow stronger like the rain that makes flowers beautiful. - - r, ■ administration administration This concludes the announcements, have a good day, is one of the phrases with which we are all familiar. Through this year, the students have learned the horror of hearing their names sounding thru the intercom, the terror of having an appoint- ment in the guidance office, and the frightening ex- perience of getting caught”. Between mods there was the clicking sound of Mr. Barker's heels when walking down a quiet hall. There was never a time when one of the administration would not help a stu- dent with his problems. Yes sir, this is the Mulberry High School Administration! This concludes the an- nouncements, have a good day.” 15 Secretaries and Faculty Assistants Mrs. Ellen Austin Secretory Mrs. Donna Kledzik Secretary Mrs. Pat Revell Guidance Mrs. Doris Anthony Faculty Assistant Mrs. Margaret Shanks Foculty Assistant Maxine Smith Foculty Assistant Mrs. Connie Howard Secretary 16 administration Mr. E.C. What is it? It’s the countless hours of training, the dedica- tion to the gome, the ability to win, and the courage to face defeat. These are the things that any winner must have whether he is in the water, by the chess board, or on the base- ball diamond or football field. We had our share of interceptions, fumbles, penalties, in- complete passes, and fourth downs but these are all a part of football, just as much as touchdowns, recoveries, first downs, and field goals. Through all our wins and defeats we still emerged in one piece and maybe even better people. Like someone once said, “Somtimes the best gain is to lose.” Maybe losing is just a part of winning! 30 sports Mulberry Fighting Panthers Mulberry Opponent 6 Lake Wales 0 0 Avon Park 7 15 Zephyrhills 0 29 Sebring 8 14 Melbourne Catholic 0 28 Dade City 7 6 Bartow 3 6 Santa Fe 8 14 Fort Meade 0 0 Frostproof 13 Row 1: W. One such person is the athlete. Athletes live with bruises, sprains, aching mus- cles, and long hours of practice, all for those few precious minutes when they are competing in search of victory. Some people say that there is no emotion as overwhelming as the thrill of winning except, perhaps, the agony of defeat. 49 Varsity Cheerleaders ■ • i m' noTye' arU'h rS' COP'°in: Lind° Re09° ' C°‘C0p'0in: C lia Bu99' Undo Boufwel1' Poul° Hud . Good Luck! The Student Body of Mulberry High School Wishes to Thank our advertisers and patrons for their financial support. Without you our 1973 Mulberry Tree Could not be published We travel along the road of life hardly knowing what we are, yet always daring to be something; seldom saying what we mean, but never afraid to have meaning; sometimes failing in our endeavors, though never tempted to cease trying: seeking satis- faction at every level, yet never defining happiness: often apologizing for our existence, while realizing that life is its own excuse. But the real joy of our otherwise insignificant efforts is that we are never quite satisfied to be on the left, or right, or in the middle of that road. We are always attempting to change its direction. We, the Yearbook Staff of 1972-73, tried to create this year’s Mulberry Tree with you, the student, in mind. We each contributed our thoughts with ideas in the hopes that we could best reflect the atmosphere of Mulberry High School in its most original form. This year’s staff was almost all new, but with the help of our advisor and a few yearbook workshops, we were able to publish what we think is the best Mulberry Tree ever created. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed publishing it. There were many suggestions for our theme this year. Because they are something we all experience, we chose the theme ’’emotions” for this year’s annual. Throughout the book we have displayed many of the feelings of our school—happiness, sadness, anger, and many others. Our hope is that you will realize the importance of emotions in your life . . . “Other people and I have a great deal in common. If I can believe in myself, I can believe in other people. And, I guess, the inverse of my last statement is true, also.” The Mulberry Tree Staff 1973 TjcuCL J ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------;----------------------—--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
