Summary 1953 The Panthers opened the 1953 season with a 14-0 set back by the Pinecrest Pilots winners of the Tamps Bay Conference this year. Six hard fought games were lost--three won and one tied. The games won were, Panthers 13-Sebring 8; Panthers 47-Frostproof 0; Homecoming game Panthers 13-Fort Meade 0. The second game of the season was played with Avon Park and the Panthers, although the under- dogs held the Red Devils to a 7-7 dedolck. One of the losing games was a heartbreaker. Score Lake Wales 19, Panthers 13. The Panthers outplayed the Highlanders, only to lose in the last minute of the game. Our team played good ball throughout the games played with Haines City and Kathleen. Hard luck dogged their tracks. The final scores were Haines City 26-Panthers 6; Kathleen 14-Panthers 6. The games with Kissimmee and Aubumdale cannot be bragged about.. The Panthers could have fought more like Panthers. These scores turned out, Kissimmee 27-Panthers 7; Auburndale 31-Panthers 6. Jerry Williams played excellent ball during the whole season. Because of his ability, he will play football for Florida State next year.
