ARROW I9S4 VOLUME XII MUKWONAGO HIGH SCHOOL MUKWONAGO, Wl Time, flowing like a river; time beckoning me; who knows when we shall meet again, if ever; but time keeps flowing like a river to the sea. Good-bye my love, maybe forever? good-bye my love, the tide waits for me? who knows when we shall meet again, if ever? but time keeps flowing like a river to the sea. To the sea, 'til it’s gone forever, gone forever, gone forever more. Good-bye my friends, maybe forever? good-bye my friends, the stars wait for me? who knows when we shall meet again, if ever? but time keeps flowing like a river to the sea. To the sea, til it’s gone forever, gone forever, gone forever more. Forever more? (repeat) - The Alan Parsons Project 4 Student Life Student Life 5 Brent has him on the run. The thrill of vict MUKWONAGO INDIANS Parkland Eastern Division Champions --—UNDEFEATED—----- Undisputedly. Mukwonago’s 1983 football season was among the finest ever. Led by dedicated seniors and backed by strong ju- niors, the Indians couldn’t go wrong. The end of the regular season found the Indians with an undefeated record of 9-0. Ready to show that Mukwonago deserves some respect, the Indians rolled over Falls North and were headed back to the home field and quarter- finals playoffs. Through the wind and rain, our team battled Tosa West and came out victorious. Only one team stood between us and playing on the rug-Port Washington. The semi-final was held at Brown Deer High School. Two tough teams played hard and Muk- wonago had the lead until five seconds before the clock ran out. Port kicked a controversial field goal and won the game 9-7. At that point, our dreams for a State Championship at MHS were realized to be just that - dreams. Dave pushes for a few more yards. 6 and the agony of defeat we love our Indians deep down in our hearts Mukwonago 8 Prom j RBack row: Mike Dorband. Sue Nicolic. Don Czarapata. Jenny Szalewski. Again it was held at Interlaken Lodge near Lake Geneva. Music for dancing was pro- vided by Images. Special thanks goes to our Junior Class officers and Mr. Smith, who worked hard to make it a Prom to always remember. 10 Prom We’ve Got Spirit! This year’s homecoming celebration was sparked by our spirit week activities. We started off the week with punkers roaming the halls. On Tuesday, we took an exotic trip to the Hawaiian Islands, only to come back to the typical slobs of MHS. On Thursday, we dressed our best - although the seniors chose to put on the Roman look in togas. Friday rounded off our week with the traditional blue % gold jersey day. 12 Spirit Week Pep Rally Our voices were surely heard far and wide Friday afternoon. Everyone was very enthusiastic at the pep rally — especially the Juniors who won this year’s spirit award. Our teams were introduced along with the court. Then, Dave Williams and Laurie Schuett were announced King and Queen of the 1983 Homecoming Court. Pep Rally 13 Following the pep rally, the clowns were out, the floats were ready, the band was playing, and our spirits were high, all the things for a perfect pa- rade, and perfect it was. Mrs. Sza- lewski, this year’s Grand Marshal, lead the parade as many excited Indians fans watched on. 14 Parade Here We Go Indians! Our excitement never let go and we let the Indians know it, too. Our homecoming was even better after the Indians walked over Greenfeild with a score of 48-0. Along with the Indians putting on a great show, the band and pom-pon girls did a fan- tastic job during half-time. Game 15 Let’s Dance Left to Right; Grant Pozorski and Tanya Ahrens; Jeff Petersen and Kelly Jensen; Mike Chapes and Michelle Evert; Rob Schmitter and Chris Johnson; Queen Laurie Schuett and King Dave Williams; Mike Vick and Kelly Menger; Paul Hyde and Charlie Karempelis; Mike Sadler and Ann McKenzie. This year’s Homecoming Dance was as suc- cessful as the game Friday night. Music by J. Harrison B started the dance off right, with the Grand March following at 9:30. A won- derful time was enjoyed by all. Special thanks to Mr. Smith and the Student Council for planning all the Homecoming festivities. 16 The Dance 4 GO KD Paul J. Back home he has two sisters and one brother, his father is a plastic surgeon and his mother is a homemaker. During his stay in Mukwonago, he has lived with the Littrup family. Dagmar's native language is Dutch, but he also speaks many other languages. When he returns to Belgium, Dagmar plans to enter college and study economics. His goal in life is to be successful. Dagmar’s favorite activity here and in Belgium is dancing. The big- gest difference between teens here and in Bel- gium. according to Dagmar, is that American teens are more conservative. Belgium teenagers tend to smoke and drink more and are more inde- pendent. 56 Foreign Exchange Students Brazil Claudia Dazzi dos Reis Claudia is our 1983-84 AFS student from Brazil. Brazil is a beautiful country where Portuguese is the native language. The biggest difference between Brazil and the United States, according to Claudia, is the weather. The average temperature in Claudia’s home city of Vitoria is usually 90 degrees all year round, with a really cold” day being about 58 degrees. After our Wisconsin winter she’ll really know the definition of cold. Claudia will pursue a career in dentistry, upon her return home. Her goal in life is to help people as much as possible. Eva Carlsson Sweden Eva is 17 years old and lives in Sweden. Her favorite pastimes are horseback-riding, skiing, sailing and traveling. School is easier in Amer- ica, according to Eva. but much more stress is placed on education here also. Eva said that American views of things are much different than those of the Swedes. She thinks that Mid- westerners are too conservative and the Swedes are more open towards other countries and languages. After five years of string music in the Mukwonago Area Schools, we have the start of an orchestra at MHS that promises to grow larger and larger in the next sev- eral years. The 1983- 1984 orchestra’s pre- formances included the annual evening Christmas and Spring Concerts, demonstra- tions at several of the district’s elementary schools and a joint holiday concert by the high school and junior high school or- chestras in the Christmas Dome at the Mitchell Park Conservatory. 62 Concert Bands I 6 II And Orchestra Back Row: Tammy Carlson. After completing the purpose of the trip, which was the concert and marching competition, there was ample time for the Screaming Eagle Roller Coaster and River Rapids Rides at Six Flags, a ride to the top of the Arch, a walk through the Westward Expansion Museum, a dinner dance and cruise on a real river boat, and last, but not least, our own Toga-Pizza Party! If you like this book, let them know. If you should find any errors, remain silent and remember that their time was given freely - no pay, no class credits earned. SPEED OF LIGHT The 1983 varsity was led by Jim Conway (MVP), who was Mukwonago’s only con- ference champion and state qualifier in the high hurdles. Junior Jay Frohne and sophomore Mike Chapes finished second and third behind Conway in total points earned. The team captains were 4 year letter winner Pat McPhetridge. 3 year letter winner Chris Goodwin, Jim Conway and Tom Hocken- berry. Bill Kalinowski was named honorary captain. Two new school records were set in the triple jump and Tom Hockenberry broke the two mile record set by John Ragath back in 1976. Much of Mukwonago’s success was due to the fine performances turned in by underclassmen. Juniors Curt Chase, Rob Schmitter, Chris Cooper, Joe Mersch- dorf, Chris McPhetridge, Dave Williams and Brett Magolan had fine seasons, while sophomores Pete As- mann, Mike Vick, Paul Hyde, John Maneage, Jim Freiburger and Rick Mazur- kiewicz earned letters and contributed greatly to our winning season. The team finished third in conferences with this and many other accomplish- ments, they have earned the re- spect of area teams and coaches. Things look good for the future too. Among the nine varsity run- ners, eight are sophomores and one is a freshman. There will be a lot of excitement in 1984. Watch Theml This was the largest and the youngest JV team ever fielded by Mukwonago High School, and by far its strongest. Many girls ran times that would have quali- fied them for varsity teams pre- vious years. The highlight of the season was a first place finish at the Parkland Conference meet. There were also individual ac- complishments throughout the seasoni most notably, school re- cords were set by Jean Stumpner and Danielle Hotelling. The dedi- cation and ability demonstrated by all the girls make us confident that Mukwonago Girls Cross- Country will be strong for many years. 1983 Team Highlights 1983 JV Team Highlights Highlander Invite- 3rd Franklin Invite- 1st Laser Relays- 4th Mukwonago Invite- 1st New Berlin Invite- 4th Parkland Conference Meet- 3rd Sectional Meet- 3rd State Qualifier- Deb Kirchhoff Most Valuable Runners- Deb Kirchhoff and Lisa Milosch Most Dedicated- Darleen Katerski Most Improved- Kari Mueller Waukesha County Championships- 3rd Homestead Highlander lnvite-3rd Mukwonago lnvite-2nd Parkland Conference Meet- 1st Most Valuable JV Runner- Jean Stumpner 99 100 Jeff and Rick take a break. Defensivly our fine headhunters” were Tim Crawley and Greg Mazur as ends, Warren Grob as quarterback, and Rob Vick as linebacker prior to his knee injury. Rob also did a fine job coming back off of a knee injury and being a stalwart guard offensively. The high point of the season was our final game against Franklin High School. The game would decide whether we would have a 500% season. Franklin had a 4-1 record. We ran the ball for over two-hundred yards and went on to win X)-0. Defense held them to just thirty-six yards rushing and twenty-one yards passing.
