Row 2: L to R; Kim Woods and Tim Mackcscy; Sue Wc remember prom night as if it were only yester- day. Festivities began with dinner served at the beautiful Interlaken Lodge in Lake Geneva. Cou- ples danced and enjoyed music provided by “Main Event.” Mistresses of ceremonies were Tracy Joles and Susy Jensen. Everyone waited in suspense for the announcement of Prom King and Queen. After the coronation, King Marty Pierce and Queen Dawn Binon led in dancing to the the theme song “Open Arms” by Journey. The Juniors did an out- standing job of making Prom ’82 a perfect evening and one we will always remember. 8 Prom “Open Arms” 10 Prom Prom 11 Great America The Mukwonago Marching Band, under the direction of Karen Hill, Carolyn Zielinski, and Chris Mutschler, paraded through the streets at Marriot’s Great America on May 2, 1982. After marching, the band members enjoyed a funfilled afternoon riding the Eagle, seeing shows, and buying souvenirs. 12 Great America Pep Rally The pep rally was a big success again this year. Many students came to cheer on their class sections, but it was the Juniors who were the most spirited. Along with the spirit yell, the fall sport teams were intro- duced, the cooks were given a special spirit award, and Kim Woods was presented as Ms. Irresistable 1982. The close of the pep rally brought the intro- duction of the Homecoming Court, and the announcement of Pat McPhetridge and Krys Weisflog as Homecoming King and Queen, 1982. Pep Rally 13 We Love A Parade Homecoming festivities continued Friday after- noon, and this time it didn’t rain on our parade. Ear! Detloff lead off the parade as Mukwona- go’s first Grand Marshal. He was followed by the High School and Jr. High marching bands. The many floats and convertibles made for a very colorful and enjoyable display. 14 Parade Go Indians Go! MHS students let all their enthusiasum show through as Mukwonago whomped Greenfield 17-0, Friday night for another homecoming win. The half time show was spectacular as the MHS marching band, rifles, colorguard, and pom-pons squads performed to Mirada, Excalibar, Come in From the Rain, and Georgia on My Mind. This club makes it possible for students to live in another country with a different family. It is a tremendous learning experience for those who travel and also for those who just listen to what AFS students have to say about their own country. Yael Rotchild Yael is 18 years old and comes from Afula, Israel. At home in Israel she has three older brothers who are in the Israelic Army, a father who is the co-owner of a farm machinery fac- tory, and a mother who teaches kindergarten. While staying in the United States she lived with the Bruss family. Yael’s favorite things about the United States include going shopping at the big shopping centers and afterwards going to McDonalds. Yael likes to pass time playing bas- ketball. In February, upon her return to Israel, she will begin her mandatory service. Yael thought the United States was a nice country, and Wisconsin was beautiful, but cold. 58 AFS AFS Scngul Yurdatapan came here from Istanbul, Turkey. She’s sixteen years old and comes from a family of four. Her father and mother both work in Germany. Senul had the most unfortunate experience of all the AFS students. She arrived a month later than all of the other exchange students, and then her luggage didn’t arrive until two months after she got here. Her hobbies include painting, skating, and meeting new people. She said that she liked our “celebrations’’ here the best. Besides the regular holidays. Sengul enjoyed the homecoming festivities. She thought it was colorful and interesting dressing different each day of the week. Second most. Sengul liked the way school was an important part of a teenager’s life. Everyone has a chance to get involved w ith clubs of their choice and participate in basketball, football games and even those “crazy band contests. After arriving back in Turkey. Sengul plans to enter the university and study psychiatry or engineering. Andrew Mann Andrew, age 16, comes from Warrambool. Australia. At home he has two sisters and one brother. His father is a plumber and his mother cares for the house. While in the United States he’s staying with the Jolcs family. Andrew’s favorite American things arc food and sports. In Australia he participates in an Austrailian type of football. Andrew says that the United States has the very best of everything, and he wouldn’t mind living here. He thinks that MHS has very organized and excellent extra-curricular activities. Andrew’s goal in life is to be successful. AFS And ASSE Sixteen year old Andres is a native of Mexico City, Mexico. He comes here from a family of six. His father is a pediatrician and his mother is a home maker. Andres also has three sisters. Since coming to the United States, he has stayed with the Leonard family. Andres says he likes the fast life. This includes sports, food, people, girls and school. His hobbies include water skiing, swimming, and of course, girls. Andres says he likes blondes (because there are none in Mexico) and he likes being able to go out on a date without a chaperone here. The only thing he doesn’t like is not being able to drive. Someday Andres hopes to become an aeronautic engineer. Unlike the other exchange stu- dents, Anne comes from the ASSE, or American — Scandina- vian Student Exchange, not AFS. Although the two organizations differ, they are pretty much the same. Anne hails from Vaase, Finland. Her father is the director of a factory, and her mother is a housewife. While staying in the U.S., she lived with the Brand family. Anne enjoys many of the same things seventeen year old Wisconsinites do. Among these arc skiing (both downhill and cross country), tennis, and playing the piano. Anne’s favorite things in America are the good television and radio programming and the variety of food (especially pizza and tacos). She thinks Wisconsin and the United States are very interesting, but the weather is sometimes unpredictable. 60 Andres And Anne CLUBS SPANISH « $' ' O®4 draMA .o- 1 medieval gaming club 4 rtM« . cv« 1 . 4. ssco-°v se ' F.H.A. Our club has grown from 81 to 208 for the 1982-1983 season. We try to ski as many hills as time and the season allow us This year we took 41 people to Indianhead Resort in Wakefield, Michigan. Skiing there for three days was worth a whole season of Southern Wisconsin skiing. Other trips planned this year include Little Switzerland, Devil’s Head, Alpine Valley, Majestic and Cascade Mountain, with a racing team to compete at all the hills. Future plans include a trip in 1984 to the Rockies. Mrs. Roe attributes much of the club's success to the support of her husband. Bob. who is co-advisor and chaperones all of the trips with her. Their efforts in creating school unity through murals, spirit activities, and dance organization have much improved school atmosphere. Service projects such as two blood drives, community involvement day, and valentine flowers, have kept them in the foreground as a responsible, dependable school organization. Boys Cross Country The boys had about their fas- test crew ever. It was also the youngest varsity team ever fielded at the high school. Tom Hockenberry and Rob Schmit- ter were All-Parkland Confer- ence runners and Hockenberry became the first boy since 1970 to run at the WIAA State Championships. Sophomores Rick Mazur- kiewicz and Dan McPhetridge blasted the school records for their age divisions, while Jeff Petersen, Tim Cyra and Steve Grabowski lettered as sopho- mores. Joe Frohne was the lone fresh- man letterwinner, but he set several school records in the process. He also finished 29th out of 105 runners at the con- ference meet. The frosh squad, led by Jeff Arkin and Mark Wilde, won two invitationals for their best showing ever. The frosh brought home the Highlander Invitational and Mukwonago Invitational championship tro- phies. The JV, led by Paul Acker, was runnerup in the Mukwonago and Laser Invita- tionals. The only graduating senior will be Tim Behling, who ran 17:51 at the conference meet to help the team to its best Parkland Conference finish ever. The slogan for the 1982 football season was “We’re movin’ up!’’ And move up we did! All the way to the top! The Indians - behind a consistent defense, a fast-improving offense, and an excellent kicking game - tied Oak Creek for the conference championship with a 6-1 record and 8-1 overall. This championship was the first since 1972 and only the 2nd since 1957. The accomplishments of the 1982 Indian football squad exceeded all pre-season expectations. A tre- mendous job was done by all of those persons in- volved. It was an exciting football season with many thrilling and anxious moments. Mukwonago went on to win 8 in a row against Parkland opponents. Then the showdown! It had been building up to this all season: the last game of the year between unde- feated Mukwonago and once beaten Oak Creek, who was the unanimous pre-season pick to “win it all.” The winner of the game would represent the Parkland East in the Division “1” state play-offs. Unfortunately for the Indians, it was not to be their night. After a 7 to 7 deadlock at halftime. Oak Creek took advantage of a great opening drive to start the 2nd half and 2 “unplanned” plays to take the game away from Mukwonago. Final score - 21 to 7. It was a “sour” note on which to end the season. But, none the less, a great season had been turned in by the Indians. Listed only by the pre-season prognosticators as a “dark horse,” Mukwonago turned in tremendous week, by week performances. Eighth victories in a row, many a thrill and a conference co-championship. The Chamber Singers, Treble Choir, and Mixed Chorus, under the direction of Charmaine Ku- harske, recreated a Renaissance Christmas celebration. With each trumpet fanfare, another tradition of Merrie Olde England was discovered. Among these were announcements of the wassail, the boarshead, the entertainment, and the passing of the dessert. Also featured were brass musicians, wandering minstrels, jesters, trum- peters, recorder players, a juggler, and a magician. A delicious dinner was served by students of WCTI. Included on the menu was wassail. Prime Rib, baked potatoes, French style green beans, and plum pudding. This years madrigal dinner was a big success. Wassail, which means “Be in good health”, was used by the Anglo-Saxons as the customary drink for a toast. It was tradition to drink a wassail to the lord of the house, and thus the wassail bowl became a feature of the English Christmas.
