PAULA TAVARES I live in Brazil and my town is Campinas. It is in the southern part of Brazil, and is a big city with seven thousand people. I speak Portuguese, as Brazil is the only country in South America where people don’t speak Spanish. I will go back to Brazil in July and will be able to get a very good job because now I know English and English is very important to get a very good job in Brazil. I want to go to the university. I am not sure, but I think I want to be a doctor. This year in America is a very good experience for me. I have learned a lot about the life in the U.S. I always wanted to visit America, and now I am happy. I have seen new things like snow, cold weather and new methods in school. I enjoy snow because than I can ice skate and ski and go snowmobiling. I am very happy to get a chance to to come to Wiscon- sin and meet lots of new friends. 22 Paula Tavares

MAGGIE GICHO My name is Maggie Gicho. I am seventeen years of age. I come from Kenya, which is a country situated in Fast Africa. My home town, Mombasa, is the second largest town of Kenya with 135,000 people. I live right behind the Indian Ocean, which I miss a lot. My stay here has been very nice; I like the way the people have been helping me in different ways. The only thing that I have really wanted to see was snow, which I have, but it’s too cold for me and I can hardly wait to see the sunshine again. I love the freedom the kids in America have. When I return home I plan to take a hairdress- ing course which will last about six months. Maggie Gicho 23
