If was a night enjoyed by everyone, as the couples danced and listened to the music provided by Sun Touch. The most exciting part of the evening was the suspense of who would reign as the new King and Queen. Master of Ceremonies Wayne Rhode, and Mistress of Ceremonies Julie Jensen, an- nounced the King and Queen of the 1979 Junior Prom, who were Bob Crouch and Louise Kon- ieczny. Bob and Louise led everyone dancing to the theme song, picked by the Junior Class, “Just the Way You Are,” by Billy Joel. The Juniors did an excellent job of makin Prom ’79 a night to remember. Prom 5 L uio-id A NORMAL SCHO OL DAY AT MHS 9 HOMECOMING WEEK Homecoming ’79 was another success. Throughout the week great spirit was shown by all the classes and the cooks. Colors Day started off the week when each class wore a designated color. Tuesday was Twin Day, which was a lot of fun. Wednesday was the day when everyone put on their clothes that clashed the most. Thursday was a Hush Day for the girls. A Mr. Irresisti- ble Award was given to the guy who collected the most hush pins. It was also Dress-Up Day. Friday was the annual Blue and Gold Day. The spirit that built up throughout the week grew stronger at the Pep Assembly held Friday. All the enthusiasm was a great help to the football team, who gave the school a victory over Wa- terford (15-0) making Homecoming ’79 a success. Homecoming was brought to a close with the dance on Saturday night. All the spirit that was generated dur- ing spirit week was brought together at the pep assembly on the day of the big game against Waterford. The Sophomore class proved their spirit by winning the tomahawk in the cheering competition. The spirit award was given to the cooks, who showed the most spirit throughout the week. Senator Adleman presented the school with a Wisconsin flag. Ger- iann Crawley, president of the Student Government, accepted the gift. The Mr. Irresistable award was presented to Glen Ray for collecting the most pins from girls on Hush Day. THE PARADE The High School Band led the parade throughout the Village of Mukwonago. Fol- lowing behind were floats of all sorts, clowns, horses, and all those people who partici- pated to make the parade a success. The annual class float competition was won this year by the Senior Class. The other float competition was a tie between the Cross Country team and the Vol- leyball team. THE DANCE Homecoming Court: Greg Peterson, Joanne Hurm, Jeff Swan, Kathy Hardtke, John Crawley, Lynn Peterson, Rhojean Lianas. From there they proceeded to school for the Homecoming Dance. The music was pro- vided by the group “Magic.” The high- light of the evening was the presentation of the 1979 Homecoming Court. THOMAS HELM Due to Jim Brenner’s resignation and acceptance of a new job in San Francisco, Mrs. Francis Schwalby took over his former job of teaching Emerging Nations and US History. However, Mrs. Schwalby was also required to leave because of her husband’s transfer to Florida. In turn, Mr. Thomas Helm was hired to perform her previous duties. We here at Mukwonago would just like to say: “Mr. Helm, welcome to MHS.” COOKS The student body here at Muk- wonago High School would like to extend a big “thanks” to all the cooks who have served us delicious lunches each day throughout the school year. It takes a lot of effort to feed thirteen hundred hungry appetites every day, and we think they deserve one “hec of a lot” of recognition. Keep up the good work! Cooks: (Back) Marge Stobber, Gloria Kohlman, Delores Szakewski, Mary Gedemer, Julie Ransom. LaVonne Pine, Vi Berg. (Front) Sue Byrne, Judy Brown, Janet Ready. CUSTODIANS We’d also like to show our gratitude to the custodians who maintain the upkeep of our school above and beyond the require- ments of educational standards. It also takes a lot of time and effort to make MHS a safe place to be, and we’d sure notice a big change if they weren’t doing their job as well. We really appreciate it! However, being a sophomore does have one advan- tage — learning to drive. It also makes you realize that your high school days are half over and you will be rapidly finding yourself an upperclassman. Time is hours of school work while taking courses to prepare us for our senior year and for college. Time is spent working a part-time job to pay for gas and a car. It’s Friday nights spent freezing at football games and yelling at basket- ball games. Time is hours and hours of preparing for Prom (girls waiting to be asked and guys work- ing to pay for it!) Time is wondering where the last three years have gone and realizing how much we have changed. Time is one year until 1981. Class Officers: J. Dettinger, S. Klokner, J. Crawley, C. Middle Row: Mike McGraw, Bill McCarthy, Jim Duszynski, Dan Stine, Dennis Vanderschaegen. Bottom row: Tom Loope, Scott Kalinowski, Dave Leppine, Dave Hemm, Jim Schoolcraft. FROSH IMPROVE The freshmen won only two games, beating Waterford twice. They lost tough games to Ocon- omowoc, Wilmot, and Salem. Jeff Armstrong became a promising pitcher by season’s end and team hitting improved. Coach Swam believes that because of their in- terest and enthusiasm, this young group will become a fine varsity team. Front row: Jeff Armstrong, Stan Sugden, Dan Nagel, Paul Douglas. Sue Stocks — Arrow Editor 148 Clubs 149 Senior Class Officers: Sue Fickau, Secretary; Mark Draeger, President; Julie Jensen, Vice- president; Sheila Chase, Treasurer. Upon entering Mukwonago High School, we, the senior class of 1980, faced many new objectives, challenges, and op- portunities. As freshmen, we fought our battles in the commons — searching for a place to sit, but continually dreading to ask that inevitable question, “Excuse me, is that chair saved?” Just when we felt we knew our way around the school, we realized that room 804 was not a science room, but an English room, which as a result, de- flated our self-confidence. However, we soon began to accept the new feeling of high school, and realized that this place wasn’t so bad after all. As sophomores, we discovered the true value of the Center, as we reluctantly sat through the famed Western Civ large groups. On the other hand, learning to drive greatly enforced our self-assurance, but nevertheless, parallel parking once again weakened our will. With half of our high school years be- hind us, our junior year laid the founda- tion for our many responsibilities as up- perclassmen. As prom approached, the girls waited anxiously for that special question, while the gentlemen apprehensively tried to “scrape-up seventy-five bucks.” With its theme of “Just the Way You Are,” prom proved to be a wonderful success, and ev- eryone left with many beautiful memories. As seniors, we returned to school only to find that our locker bay had disappeared, and in its place stood Mukwonago’s new Counseling Center. Our education took on new meaning, for we realized we would not be returning the following year .. . And we aspired new goals, values, and dreams. We now look toward the future, realiz- ing that graduation not only marks the end of our high school years, but the be- ginning of many new horizons. Although we shall all go our individual ways, we will always treasure the many memories which lie here in MHS. 150 Senior Tammy Adamski Plays M-4; Drama M-4; FBLA 4.
