Will the upcoming years separate him from the friends of his youth, and leave him with only the fond memories of high school; or will he travel forth into the world by the side of his friend, seeking his desires through the knowledge he attained from this school? Whatever his destiny, it is sure that he will not forget MHS, which shaped his being and furnished him with images that he will recall forever. Though it seems like yesterday, the Class of '73 was born from the halls of our elementary schools four years ago. As freshmen-sophomores, our existence was similar to that of a typical childhood; we didn't fight to survive, we struggled to learn of life. It was in these years that the character, the distinct style and flair of the Class of '73, was created and nurtured . . . If 1970 and 1971 were the years of Creation, our junior times would be labeled the year of success and pride. Our class had changed; we no longer worked as a single unit, but as individuals striving for common goals. It was the year we ventured out into the high school world and proved our merit. Most people would agree that our junior year had an innocent beginning, because winning the Homecoming float competition is not, in it- self, so unique; but it was a moral victory, and the surging spirit that originated from it swept us to May, 1972, the time for our Junior Prom. The growing, enthusiastic soul we now possessed dared us to try a new idea with Prom—to break tradition—and we succeeded beyond all imagination. The Class of '73 had added another dimension, and only one chapter of our book remained to be written . . . The summer passed quickly, and by September, our dreams of being seniors were realized. Now it was the year of sentiments; when we first sensed, individually and collectively, what high school really meant to us. It is the privilege of the Senior to build a float in three nights, and then to watch it pass slowly in that final Homecoming Parade. At their last Homecoming game, who could be sure that it was only sweat or rain pouring from the faces of the Senior play- ers and fans? The winter of the Senior year passes much too quickly—basketball, skiing, wrestling are gone—but then they were more enjoyable as each success was savored just a little bit more. Everything has a much greater meaning this time around. Spring, the season of love, arrives at MHS, but it brings the mixed emotions of love and fear to the Senior. Hope for the future fills the mind of the Senior, but sadness fills his heart. Wishful looks replace the smiles as he sees the last Prom of his time. The smiles return in time for Graduation; it’s all over, and the happiness that comes from reaching the four-year goal drowns all other emotions. You cannot help feeling grate- ful to your teachers and friends for all those hours . . . . . . The Class of ’73 is now complete, ready to retire into Mukwonago history, but unwilling to let their character, their success, or their pride ever be forgotten. We carry into the world the qualities which Mukwonago High School instilled within us. As with ev- eryone else, they could be seen after the sounding of the tone, wandering around aimlessly and bewilderedly, asking such questions as What mod is this? , “What day is this? , “What’s a mod anyway?”, and Who am I? But, being the most intelligent and dynamic group in the school (Editor's note: The opinions expressed by the writer —a junior—are not necessarily those of this editor.) (Author's note: The editor is a Senior.) the Juniors were quick to grasp the meaning and advantages of the new system. It gave them more time for study and self-discovery, as well as more time for hacking around. The Juniors are well-prepared to fall heir to the high posi- tion of responsibility left them by the graduating class. They are also desperately waiting for their turn at I.P.R., which will give them the opportunity to leave school to do some- thing worthwhile with their time—like going home to watch The Electric Company” or “Sesame Street. It also states that the noun is derived from two Greek words: sophos meaning wise or clever and moros meaning foolish or silly. The definition is simple and logical, but it’s the derivation that hints at what makes the typical sophomore “tick”. A sophomore is a constantly changing person. His moods continually swing like a pendulum from the carefree behavior of the freshman to the more serious, more sophisticated attitudes of the upperclassman. Our own definition of a sophomore would read something like this: A high school student composed of one part freshman carefreeness, one part junior ideal- isms. Mix all the ingredients together and at the end of fermentation in June, the recipe will produce a product that ranks high in quality: a student with experience. This class has encountered both good and bad expe- riences this year in the new school. But that is to be ex- pected—they have abandoned the old for the new and they will accept the consequences and challenge the challenges. The everyday life of a sophomore was varied. Some occupied themselves with work in labs, trying to solve the riddles of nature. Others may have been in classes learning skills varying from how to speak a language to how to develop a photo. The various programs in gym or shop attracted some. Others went for speed reading. No one activity was dominant. The sophomores seem to explore everything and will continue to do so as juniors. 43 Jeffrey Adler Thomas Agne Jacquelyn Allen Mary Andler Walter Apfel Bonnie Arndt Lawrence Back Michael Bacia Paul Baertlain Susan Banazynski Bruce Banks Wayne Barkley Jeffrey Beaudin Neal Benjamin Kathleen Binder Barbara Block Laurene Bollmann Gary Bornfleth Catherine Boyd Robert Brinkman Dorothy Brissette Bernice Brown Donna Brugge Katherine Brunette Dale Butke Guadalupe Campos Cevin Caproon Claudia Chapman Laurie Chapman Catherine Cobb David Congdon Douglas Corcoran Louise Crane Vickey Crouch Bonnie Crum Keith Crum Bruce Danielson Scott Davis Pamela Degutis Randy DeLano 44 Laurei Desmonie Jill Dickert Nancy Dippo Susan Domenosky lames Donner Robin Dorband Holly Draeger Robert Eccker Cynthia Eggleston Daniel Ernsting Dean Falk Linda Fehlhaber Brian Feich Elmer Fohr Cynthia Fox Cathy Francke Karen Gaetke Kevin Gallina Joanne Gardner Donna Genzmer Bryon Gerick John Gitzlaff Wendy Gitzlaff Candace Graf Judy Graham Margaret Green Bonnie Greene John Grieser 45 Gail Guthrie Gary Guthrie Lynn Hafemeister Russell Hager David Harvestine George Hassi Bonnie Hawkins Mark Hazelbaker |a nice Held Kay Hannenkens Peter Hinz Randall Hoag Ted Hoeft Mary Holtz Anne Hood Rodney Houk Ryan Hunkins Suzanne Hunt Patricia Hurm Timothy Huss Elke jaegersberg William Jaquith Nancy Jarowsky Deborah Kainz John Kannard David Karlinsky Barbara Keane Michael Kennedy Michael Kijewski Mary King Lee Ann Klingbyll Thomas Knurr Kim Kober Jane Krause Susan Laumann Sandra LeClair Pamela Leighton Jeffrey Lepak Russell Lepak Steven Lewandowski 46 Barbara Lindholm Susan Lippit Kathleen Lloyd Kerry-jo Long John Lord Frank Luczak Charles Ludwig Debra Ludwig Nadine Luebke James Lutz Douglas Marcarsen Dennis Marquardt Kevin McGee Jean McGrath David McKenzie Mary McKenzie Jim Meacham David Merlau Rebecca Merryfield Carla Metzger Robin Miller Steven Miller Kathy Mitchell Diane Moore Martha Morrow Michael Morse Sandra Mosnicka Carol Mueller Michael Nau 47 Lorri Nelson Kevin Nevel Rebecca Nicosen Richard Nimmer Tina Oberholtzer Mary Oberlin Sheri Obluck Evarard Osman Ioann Page! No other freshman class entering Mukwonago has had to con- front the numerous situations that resulted from the open concept. This freshman class should be well pre- pared for their next three years of high school life. The attitudes of the Class of '76 are varied in the new MHS. In general, this class is proud of their school, which is a fresh feeling among freshman classes, based on the reactions of the preceding years. Both boys and girls like the chance to study on their own in resource centers. They welcome the chance to avoid the rigidness of study halls. They see their un- scheduled time as a chance to meet their peers, allow- ing them to form a close bond with their classmates. But they are afraid of one thing; because of the relaxed atmosphere and lack of rules, they worry that the teachers and administration don't care enough to guide them. Freshman Student Council Members are now seeking the answers to solve this lack of understanding between the two. Boys and girls have different preferences in MHS. Freshman boys appreciate being able to use their free mods in open gym and the shop area. The girls like to use their free moments in band of chorus, and even the industrial skills area. One comment probably sums up the first year in MHS for the Class of '76. One freshman said, “At first I didn’t like it—then it was cool—now it’s part of my nor- mal life.” 3) John Adam Nancy Andler Diane Allen Alan Anderson Deborah Armstrong Lawrence Armstrong Debra Arndt Karl Aschenbrenner Scot Baertlein Doak Baker Anthony Ball Nancy Bartholomew Cynthia Bauman Curt Beckman Ronald Behling Debra Bennett Patrick Berg Paul Bethkc Patricia Block Elsbeth Blom Jeffery Blott Carey Bollman Roxanne Bonnert Deborah Bonney Dale Bopp Jody Bopp Scott Bowers Paul Bowey William Box Scot Brecklin Pamela Breidenbach Scott Briesath Jeffery Brinkman Wade Brueser Jay Burrow Patricia Cassidy Cathleen Chronis Tina Congdon Patricia Conroy Jeanne Cooley Elaine Cooper Pamela Cooper William Crouch Kevin Crusan 52 Juliette Dalberg Judy Deacon Lori Degroot Paul Delosh David Dennett Kathleen DeRubeis Thomas Diamond Jerry Dickow James Diehn Laura Draeger Kim Effinger Mary Ellis Ross Faude Joanne Fettig Cheryl Fitzgerald Rick Fletcher Deborah Fox Karen Fox Catherine Friedrich Eugene Gardner Lois Genzmer Marilyn Ginster Steven Goff William Grieser Keith Haag Mark Halverson Dave Hansen Kathryn Hansen Bryan Hansen Richard Harris Kelly Hartman Richard Hawkins Dean Heil Robert Heinemann Linda Hengen Karen Hibler Larry Hoeft Susan Hogan Jeannine Holzman David Hoppe Kristine Humcke Debbie Hunkins John Hunkins Lori Huss 53 William Jarowsky Vicki Jay Douglas Johnson Debra Jones Nancy Justin Jennifer Kainz Ramona Kamenick Theresa Karlinsky Michael Karlman Kevin Kielski Scott Kilp John Knautz Roger Knoelke Darlene Knoll Creighton Knudsen Jodi Koller Debra Krause Lorie Krause Michael Ksobiech Douglas Kurth Pamela Kurth Kim Kusch Sherry Kutchera Faith Laing Brian Lang Dawn Larsen Cheryl Lepak Perry Lepak Robert Lepine Peggy Ligman James Lindell James Lippitt David Lohman Cyndy Ludwig Colin Luebke Lori Luedtke 54 Maureen Luther |ames Manschot Dennis Martin Thomas McAdams Dennis McGee Rosanne McGuire Faith McPherson Janet McPhetridge Robert Meddaugh Daniel Meier Diane Messer Lori Milazzo Pamela Miller Jeff Moes Lori Mondloch Lynn Mondloch James Morris Rose Movrich Paul Mueller Jan Mulholland Jim Naber Mindy Nevel James Newkirk Linda Nimmer Andrew Nitz Tamara Noble Michelle Normandeau Lee Obluck Alan Olson Lawrence Olson Lori Olson Joy Orgas Joseph Pease James Peters Vickie Peterson Jodie Piscitello Richard Poff Sandra Pokrandt Timothy Pokwinski Ronald Poppie Donald Porter Kelly Porter David Pratt Robert Prebil 55 Mark Pregowski Lori Price Teri Pritchett Kim Prokop Nina Rados David Rakowski Daniel Rath Loralie Rausch Mark Rausch Scott Reeves Angela Reynders Wendy Rikard Gerald Roder John Roetzel Rick Ross Virginia Rozinski John Rudolf Linda Savin Tamela Scheets Ursula Sheren Mark Schilling Kurt Schlieter Brian Schmidt Paul Schmidt Ken Schutte Mike Seidel Monica Shaft Susan Shimkus Brenda Sievert Jill Smart Debra Smith Virginia Smith Gail Stadler Richard Staedter Daniel Stanisch 56 Chris Staszewski Marguerite Staton Basil Stewart William Stine Keith Stocks Hagen Streckel David Strickler Thomas Suhm Scott Swan Allan Tabor Laurie Talatzko Dana Teske David Teutcberg Heidi Tominsek Robyn Torgerson William Traynor Robert Treffinger Lynn Trupke Norma Turner Lisa Uribe Ann Voellings Richard Wagner Scott Wagner |ane Walsh Lori Walz Scott Wambold Ann Widish Patricia Williamson Suzanne Windle Mary Winkler Cheryl Wozniak Mike Zale Terry Zingsheim Theresa Zur Lisa Zwisler FRESHMEN NOT PICTURED: Ardella Balboa Richard Hawkins Patrick Kroll Gregg Luedtke Richard Mandell Gerard Rausch Geryl Rossbach Keith Russell foe Slaski Ronald Toth John Williams Alice Zeigh 57 There is no stereotype that fits the high school student. All students experience a range of moods as they deal with the trials and tribulations of school life. The student studies; he loses himself in a good novel. He raps with his friends; he just wants to be alone so he can contemplate life. He sleeps and shuts out the world. He wears clothes that indicate some of the things he thinks about. The student isn’t unusual. He is a mixture of a school full of individuals who have ups and downs, good days and bad days. But most days are good. 4- © Administration and School Board Avii H. Far off the in the dis- tance a clicking is heard—the sound of the only functioning non-human resident—the teletype. Offices stand as frail fortresses against the onslaught of students and noise from the commons. Ghosts of years past are as familiar as the people who speak their names: Lincoln gives his Gettysburg Address once again, and in the next room you hear Hitler talk again, and in the next room you hear of the super race. It is here you will see the old statement come true. History will repeat it- self. The department's main objective is to prepare students to actively participate in a democratic society. Yes, this is the land called Social Studies. Perhaps it is not exotic, though the in- habitants may be considered unique. Their ranks include: James Brenner—Chairman. Current Issues, Emerging Nations, Ecology Richard Brien—Western Civilization, Soviet Union Japan Cariotta Carmada—U.S. History, Urban Geography, Western Civilization Don Enright—U.S. Hstory, Consumer Eco- nomics, Current Issues Kathy Hanson—U.S. History Ken Johnson—Western Civilization, Humanities Daniel Kamoske—U.S. History, Economics SOCIAL STUDIES 67 69 The English Department consists of more than the old-fashioned grammar, reading, and English. Gradually, the department is building a sizable selection of classes. The department chairman, Miss Arpke, and co- chairman, Mrs. Roeber, work with Mr. Smith, Mr. Doone, Mrs. Kohl, Miss Harms, Mr. Mainella, Mr. Cook, and Mrs. Faucett, to produce eighteen (!) different courses. Elec- tives such as Reading Lab, Creative Filmic Arts, Journalism, Advanced Creative Writ- ing, World Lit., English Lit., and Shake- speare, weren’t even heard of a couple of years ago. Team-teaching, AV materials, long range work, work packets”, and indi- vidualized help are a few of the ideas uti- lized that make the classes diversified and interesting. The hub of all this activity is the English Resource Center, where materials, books, working areas, and rooms are avail- able for student use. And there is always something extra going on, whether it be the showing of the latest Who Knows?”, or a popular recent movie, or someone doing four somersaults in a row. DRAMA Mr. Heagle was quoted as saying, “the technical capabilities here are unlimited; the advantages of the new school are unbe- lievable. Examples of this are counter weight system, additional flyspace, and the ability to make quick scene changes. Mr. Heagle was like a child on Christmas morn- ing when these facilities became available to him for How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. The lighting sets may be the most spar- kling feature in the auditorium. The switch board can be preset, so that with a flick of a switch the lights for the next scene are ready. The catwalks enhance the lighting and also allow for additional effects. Because of the growth in the area of the drama department, the size of Mr. Heagle’s acting and directing classes has increased greatly. Plans for the future include a pro- duction entirely in the students’ hands. Al- ready included are plans for three plays in- stead of the usual two, giving local audiences a better view of the talents of the Drama Department. SCIENCE Sir Issac Newton would probably turn in his grave if he knew some of the events that happen in the Science Department. As a matter of fact, many of our teachers turn somersaults in bed at night when they re- member the freak occurrences of the days past. Mrs. Archer is threatened periodically by her Adv. Chemistry students—if they don't get an “A they’ll blow up the lab. Mr. Kohl shudders as he watches when his “Biology Butchers” mutilate their latest dissections. And Mr. Bethke rejoices when his students realize the earth orbits the sun and not vice- versa. A list of this year’s calamities would fill a volume of Ripley’s Believe It or Not. The list of the Scientific authorities in- clude: Mr. Dahle, Mr. Douglas, Mrs. Archer, Mr. Bethke, Mr. Kohl, Miss James, Mrs. Polacek. 75 MATHEMATICS In order to get the product equivalent to the Math Department, you have to add the abilities of Mrs. Murphy, Mrs. Erikson, Mr. Palmer, Miss Sugden, Miss Masarik, and Mr. Nowicki, and multiply it by the sum total of all their knowledge. This answer probably can’t be arrived at by a computer (Tilt), but only by students who earn new math prin- ciples each year. Members of the Math Staff are varied in their talents. If you want to know all about logarithms, Mrs. Murphy knows it all. And if you want to know all about figures, Mr. Palmer is the man to ask, much to the cha- grin of Mrs. Palmer. Life just isn’t one right triangle after another” says Mrs. Murphy. FOREIGN LANG. Do Ych i (vjlsL 6 pkribus u nunr) ftisj hoW it Deat Ur 78 Buenas dias! Guten tag! Four years of both Spanish and German are offered, and the Foreign Language Department fills every one of those years with more than ever be- fore. Herr Trainor, head of the department and the German teacher, along with Senora Simon and Senorita Jensen, the Spanish teachers, are working towards more individ- ualization. Because of the 21 mod, 6 day cycle scheduling, classes don’t meet every day, and students are able to work more at their own speed and are encouraged to do more independent study. In individual cases, a student could finish two years of a language in one year, or possibly only achieve V4 credit in one year. More AV mate- rials are utilized; students are able to use cassette players in the “hot carrells. Al- though first year classes are not offered in Latin and French, students study advanced Latin with Mr. Doone, and Independent French with Miss Jensen. BUSINESS The Business Ed Department is something like a factory: it assembles our abilities into skilled and learned typists, accountants, bookkeepers, secretaries—all types of busi- ness-oriented people. And come June we’ll go out and meet the real thing with new ideas and eager outlooks. We are tested for our durability—we enter the business world. But until that time we've been trying to find our way through stacks of typing packets, columns in ledger books, cassettes of short- hand tapes, and miles of calculator paper. An array of new business courses were in- troduced this year. They include business law, business English, notehand, consumer education, office machines, and an office simulation project. The consumer class (team taught by Business, Home Economics, and Area Studies teachers) hosted several guest speakers. The entire student body could attend the sessions. The office simula- tion class is among only three of its kind in Wisconsin. It is designed to give the student experience in actual office procedures be- fore leaving high school. All of the classes offer the student the chance to take what in- terests him most and to study it in greater detail. That is one of the major objectives of the new educational system which began this past September. 81 83 HOME ECONOMICS “Express Yourself! “Be Creative!” And what better place to do just that than in Home Ec.? This year’s MHS Galloping Gourmets tried their hands at the art of cooking and even though it didn’t always turn out to be something edible, it was worth the effort. In sewing, the girls proved to be creative with stitch witchery. The facilities in Home Ec. are the newest and most modern available. The suite of rooms, including the all-purpose conference room in this department, serves not only school but community events as well. Field trips sponsored by Home Ec. this year included a day-long tour of some of the most elite stores in the Milwaukee area. MHS was also represented by Home Ec. stu- dents participating in a high-fashion mod- eling show. ART MUSIC “Of course, this year the choruses have their own room, with their own storage space, practice areas, and pianos, and that really makes things a lot simpler,” states Mr. Chapman. What do they think of the new sched- uling? “Great! says Mr. Mueller. We have all the regular classes, plus we were able to add Folk Guitar and Jazz Ensemble as full credit courses.” “Longer band periods let us get into seri- ous music studies,” adds Mr. Underberg, and the modular scheduling allows for in- dividualized study. They all agree that having The Center to perform in makes the practice and staging of concerts much easier. Mr. Chapman puts it all together when he describes the BIG THREE new activities: “Rea-ully neat! The BIG THREE in MHS music include: 1— Mr. Underberg—Symphonic Band, Jazz Band 2— Mr. Mueller—Frosh-Soph. Band, Jazz Band 3— Mr. Chapman—Mixed Chorus, Girls Glee, Chamber Singers. 87 PHYSICAL ED. One of these is Ralph Schmidt. Ralph took second in State in both the high and low hurdle events and was the team’s leading scorer. Another reason the Coaches are grinning is Chuck Radke, who surprised everyone, (including himself) with a 5th place finish in the 880 yard run at conference! There are many more returning “greats” who help make the 1972 season eventful, and who will try for even better things in ’73. Row 1: M. Tueteberg, C. Radtke, S. Dia- mond, J. Hyland, M. Janovetz, C. After running through the regular season without a defeat, they couldn't put it together in the South- ern Lakes Conference Meet. Dignity was retained when the team fin- ished second at the Sectional Tour- nament. This included 9 girls who later competed in the State Finals. The 880 yard relay team was most successful, returning with a silver medal for their efforts. VARSITY. FAR LEFT: Front Row: Coach Erikson, J. Dickert, T. Oberholtzer. M. Marty. L. Saunders. S. Highlights of the season include: hitting 5 balls in a water hole and up with a 21 on a par 4, playing against a girl whose father is a golf pro, and winding up fourth in conference instead of last, like last year. The fantastic girls tennis team also placed fourth in conference with one particular individual starring in section- als, Cathy Humcke, who played first singles. After an impressive non-conference win over Kettle Moraine, the Indians were set back by two heartbreaking losses in hard- fought games with Union Grove and Bur- lington. These two teams were ex- ceptionally lucky; they played the Blue and Gold when they were injured and inexperienced. The rest of the year was all uphill, as the Indians devastated their last six opponents. Badger was the first to fall to the underdog” Indians, in a game that was totally Mukwo- nago dominated. Parent Night saw the In- dians destroy Waterford, 34-zip. In the next two outings, both Salem and Big Foot were defeated, and, including Badger, that made three straight homecomings the Indians ruined. The last game of the year featured the Indian offense falling over Wilmot to the tune of 30-12. Homecoming, which preceded the Wilmot massacre, renewed the sporting rivalry with neighboring East Troy. The team, led by Captains Steve Thompson and A1 Witten- berg, would not let their spirits be damp- ened by the rain, as they mudded their way to a 14-6 triumph. Most importantly, the Indians finished in a first place tie with Burlington for the championship of the Eastern Division of our Southern Lakes Conference. Everybody in MHS should be proud of this accomplish- ment by our Indians. The 1972 MHS squad, under the guidance of first-year coach Gaylord Lee, put all these qualities together to achieve a remarkable season. This year’s team, led by tri-captains, John Louis, Charlie Radtke, and Rod Vick, and bolstered by the return of five lettermen, placed fifth at the conference meet. Notable additions to the 1972 squad were sophomore Dave Karlinsky, who was voted as the team's most Valuable Player, and junior Steve Diamond, who was the winner of the “Brown Nose Award , just “nosing,” out Rod Vick for this special unheralded honor. Coach Lee will look for help from this year’s J.V. team and his returning lettermen to form the basis of what should be a strong varsity for the 1973 season. Bottom Row: J. Peterson, D. Karlinsky. S. It gives you the main ingredients for an excellent varsity wrestling team that boasted a 9-5 overall record and a fourth place finish in conference. Mukwonago placed six individuals at the conference tournament, topped by co-captain Nick Movrich's second at 132 pounds. Third place finishes were taken by co-captain Rod Vick, Bob Movrich, Greg Kazmierski, and Jerry Jaquith, while Jerry Anich captured a fourth. At the sectional competition, Mukwonago was represented by its two co-captains, Vick and Movrich. Rod bowed out to the eventual state champion, but Nick finished strong and advanced to the state finals in Madison. Although Nick lost 3-2 to the man who would place first, he proved to be an excellent representative for MHS athletics. This narrow defeat capped an excellent season for Nick, one which he set several individual records, including an all-time school high of 62 wins. Returning to the team for next year's varsity will be juniors Tim Drahonovsky, Bob Mov- rich, and Dan Kazmierski; sophomores Dave Karlinsky, and Jim Sauer, and freshman Wade Brueser. 139 140 CHEERLEADERS FRESHMAN: Upper left, clockwise: P. Well . . . ZOWIE! We did it all the way! And boy, did we have spirit! The spirit at MHS grew more intense as the Homecoming week progressed. The student body united behind the football team that was pushing to be No. 1 in the conference. Everyone an- ticipated the meeting with the MHS archrival, East Troy. The pep rally on Friday was a rousing send-off to both the team and the students. The parade that followed displayed the pride in MHS’s Homecoming. The Indian Spirit came to peak at game time, and not even the constant drizzle could stop the team or dampen the halftime fes- tivities. These featured the presenta- tion of the Queen, Lori Saunders, and the announcement of the float com- petition, the Junior Class and Debate Club. Pandemonium broke loose at game’s end when the Indians tri- umphed, 14-6. And the dance fittingly ended Homecoming 1972, as the Fam- ily of Max provided the entertainment for the coronation of King and Queen, Steve Douglas and Lori Saunders. The spirit never did die. It still re- mains as part of the soul of MHS and its students. •0 'W'neTOiim o We do not remember days, We remember moments. —Ceseare Pavese Come, follow the Class of '73 through these pages as they walk down the “Long and Winding Road” of their Junior Prom. Advisor Mr. Kohl, Prom Chairmen. Jan Sauer and Larry Henze, and Junior com- mittee members obtained the use of Rain- bow Springs, a beautiful resort center, as the idyllic site for the Prom. Decorations were constructed, revised, improved, and then they were finished. A gazebo and bandstand were built, not once but three times. (This class never settled for anything less than the best!) The road work was laid and then de- tailed totally meet specifications. And, de- spite all these difficulties, seven or eight ju- niors, totally fatigued, staggered from the picturesque halls of Rainbow Springs, con- tent that their Prom was finally completed, at two-thirty on the morning of May 6. That same night, their dreams were real- ized, as the Prom Court and all those in at- tendance enjoyed the most successful Prom in MHS history. JL YOU’RE GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN! But it’s a lot of fun for both audience and participants, if the audience can be excluded from the latter group. And finally it disproves the old adage. “Vaudeville is dead!” Maybe . . . 154 THE FANTAST1CKS Fantastics marked a series of firsts at MUKWONAGO. For one thing, it was the first musi- cal ever attempted during the school year, and the cast was the smallest ever—only eight people. They toured the new building and participated in the pro- gram which was held in the new gymna- sium. Last minute changes caused some problems as Larry Henze was replaced by Jan Hathway, because of illness; and area teachers boycotted the Dedication to show their growing concern over stalemated nego- tiations for a contract. Area residents seemed impressed by their new facility and its potential. MUKWONAGO 1 N EW UNION HIGH SCHOOL BURROUGHS VAN LANEN, ARCHITECTS. INC. 5455 W.BURLEIGH ST. MILWAUKEE.
