A crisp and sunny morning. Looking like a mother duck with her ducklings out for a morning stroll, the teacher leads the kids across the road to the woods. There the students see and experience what has been dulled into their heads in the stuffy classroom. The classroom is no longer the parameter of learning. Field trips are now a part of high school life. These trips range from going to see the movie “WAR AND PEACE,” to visiting the Waukesha Sewer System. A sprinkling of culture on Mukwonago students was achieved when the English, SociarStudies, and Science departments sponsored trips to Chicago. The Special Education students took a day long tour of the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry and the Advanced Drama students spent a week in New York. English students went to see THE MIKADO and HAMLET, while the Music department saw the opera THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO. The final and most anticipated trip was the Senior class trip to New York and Washington D.C.

In the fall election of 1971 the voters of the Mukwon- ago High School district determined the end of the Union High School and the formation of a new K-12 district. This instituted many changes in our school. The school administration was completely reformed. Mr. Swasey was selected as the new principal; Dr. Lohman, administrative aide. Mr. Martinka was appointed superintendent of the new K-12 district and Mr. Schacht was retained as Business Manager. It was necessary to have office space for these admin- istrators. Since space was a scarce commodity, an old storage room was pressed into service as an office. Paint and carpet transformed it into the district busi- ness office. Partitions and new furniture squeezed the new district office staff into the old storage room. Mr. Swasey is uclcomed as the new high school principal Next fall all will move with their typewriters and in dex cards to the new building. Mr. Martinka Dr. Lohman counsels a student. Mr. Schacht issues an order to Mrs. Rolfson
