Day ceremony was particularly special in that ite coincided with the opening of the Cape Town Festivalo h The ceremony took place in front of the fountaing in fact the guests were seated in the roadv Once all the guests had arrived the Guard of HOHOUF was formed. The soldiers were very neat and tidy and everything that could be shone had been shone with extra effort. ' His Worship the Mayor, Alderman Sol Kreiner, arrived and walked up a long blue carpet, greeting the soldiers, Two very thought provoking scriptures were read, after which'the Mayor welcomed everybody reading of Jan van Riebeeckvs prayer was then given This year only three wreaths were laidn The reason for this was that it was also the opening of the Festival and that it would take too lone RJ if everyone were to lay a wreath. A wreath was laid by Alderman Sol Kreiner on behalf of the citizens of Cape Town, The flag was aised and The National Anthem was sung. The Malay choir sang some lively happy songs which contributed very much to the success of the ceremony Troops exercising their right of the Freedom of Entry td the Citff marched past the fountain The presentation of the Festival Armorial B arings to the Festival Heralds was done by the Town Clerk, Dr S Evans A procession of colourful floats and drummies followed. Th were lined with people watching the procession. It was enjoyed by 'everyone, The whole Ceremony was most interesting and wlll lon be remembered l Q , SHETLEY HERBFRT CH AD GIRLJ This page is sponsored by the IMPFY Famil rv A A 5wrEE3?TW 'WT tw? . ' ' ' u MUSICAL EVENING - 20 SEETEMBEH This year saw our aulience seated at right angles to the stage with the performers in front of the eastern wall m a very cosy arrangement providing a more relaxed and informal atmosphere. what an audience 2 Never before have we been supported in such numbers and with such enthusiasm. It was a most heart-warming reception for our instrumentalists and choristers, which resulted in a highly successful evening of great benefit to all the musicians. The experience of actual public performance is invaluable - for the listeners as well as the players, and we hope that all those who attended in whatever capacity, left at the end of the evening - feeling inspired to try to achieve greater heightst f Once again, we had the support of our P,TQA. in providing refreshments during the interval. Our sincere thanks go to them, awe are alsC deeply indebted to Mrs L. Crowley for a most magnificent display of exquisite orchids lending-an atmosphere of beauty to our hallp, All in all a most enjoyable evening.
