One has been the introduction reading among the pupils o G of the Individual Reading Programme which enables children to read, at their own level, books which are of interest to them, Another development has been the introduction of the Uninterrupted Silent Reading Scheme which involves a twenty minute period, twice a week, during which pupils may read anything of their own choices We are already seeing the benefits of these two developments in library usage and we hope habits among the pupilsu ' A g to see an even greater improvement in reading We are attempting to increase the size of our Kindergarten section. ' ' ' ' l read We hope to receive donations of books which pupils no onger w, but which are still in good conditiona , Our biggest problem in the library is lack of room for expansion, In order to maintain the high standard of our library collection, we are going to have to weed out unsuitable and out of date material to make way for more relevant books. The library is open every big break and four afternoons after school Pupils make use of the library for project work and also for leisure reading. We have regular displays of projects done by pupils in the library and also in the foyer. l should like to thank all teachers and parents who have assisted us in one way or another in the library, There is a Library Committee which helps make decisions regarding the library and also ensures its smooth running, Library Committee: Teachers 0 Mrs Walkerg Mr Justg Mrs Stonerg Mrs Simpsong Miss Poveyg Mrs McDonog Miss Rooney and Mrs Myers iMedia Centr Mothers e Mrs Klosser CSecretary7g Mrs Molteno, Mrs Logang Mrs Jones and Mrs Ricketts L WALKFR CTEACHER LIBRARIANJ This page is sponsored by the PRINGLE family 0 J T 5 ' I' A Y W , f , f W!mWHaQ?fF2Wfvf 1 gf,j1.gi,f, f'a::Q,fL ' A Q' f - , . ., 'fyi',L mfg' f , 3 i--aaf-:--e-siAf-- L--22, N.. ..,.,, - ' V j ' V '

CHESS CLUB Chess has become very popular with the Junior Primary classes at Muizenberg where there seems to be the most interest and enthusiasm within the club.' A xOur senior team, Kwho has become known as the WAN teaml, have really proved themselves in the mini intermschool league this yeari Gary Prinsloo and Tom Hawkins have been reliable members for the past four years and their support has proved to be successfulQ' Tom has been our number one plaver for the past few years, but Gary has shown his determination and Tom has yet to beat him this year. Between them they both won their sections at the inter-school tournaments Mark Sampson, our third member, tied in his section of the tournament Dennis Carew and Donovan Byng played well and with more practice should prove difficult to beat in years to come. During the year's league matches our team played well and for the first time in years managed to win most matches. - The individual championships were held at the end of September. Again Gary and Tom were our entrants who did very welll Out of the fifty pupils, Gary finished fifth and Tom seventh. Our team will be lost without them next year M Gary has proved to be an excellent captain. A Our club his vsome very promising junior players from which we will be drawing our 1985 teamo Mrs Scholtz has given the Sub Ais a good basic grounding on which Mrs lmpey CSub B parentl has coached a very formidable Sub B chess teami Our Std I players coached by Mrs Raphael have some promising players who will be drawn into our league team next yeara Marc Nadler CStd CD has already played in our team on one occasion this year and has had nods of approval from our present Hseniorn team. We unfortunately have very few Std 3 and 4 pupils in our club which means that our A team will be starting young next year, This seems to be a regular occurrance in our chess club n four years ago Tom Hawkins and Gary Prinsloo were in our team as Std I pupils and now as Std 5's have made a strong teamu.
