is RIEPORT 1985 The ehVigoratingQMuizenberg air has been at work again, for two of our teachers have married since joining our staff W Miss D. Daviswhannibal lStd.9l is now Mrs Hunt and Miss S. Hacking CJunior Special Class? is now Mrs Norman. We wish them and their husbands all the joy and blessings a happy marriage can bring. For good measure, Miss L. Povey lArtl has become engaged.l Such has been the growth of the reputation of the school that teachers of a very high calibre now apply for posts here and those that leave, leave only because of extraneous circumstances. And so it is that we bid farewell to Mrs A. Fickling lStd ll and Physical Education? whose husband has been transferred to Johannesburg. Likewise Mrs Su Scholtz lSub AJ is also heading for the Highveld where her husband is now employed. For health and family reasons Mrs B. McDonogh CSenior Special Class? has decided to take leave of teaching, for the time being anyway. ln the case of Mrs L. Walker, our librarian, her child is starting school next year and Mrs Walker will thus be occupied with fullntime domestic duties. Another stalwart who has given many years of his teaching life to Muizenberg Junior School is Mr Charles Gonin, who is not leaving teaching but is thinking of branching off into the remedical side of education. director of so many who has built up our is involved with children? able to do full justice at Muiaenberg Junior School. Cindy I know, will go from strength to strength in this newlyw chosen branch of professional theatre. Our Speech and Drama teacher, Mrs C. Just, the fabulous plays at Muizenberg Junior School and reputation as a school renowned for its plays, professional theatre full time and is thus not to her work as a Speech and Drama teacher here All the teachers I have mentioned we have come to admire and respect as professionals and friends, and we wish them well in their new areas of interest. A new post has been created as from January 1985, that of our PreuPrimary teacher who will take charge of the newlywcreated Muizenberg Junior PremPrimary School. This is an exciting step forward, because for the first time we have direct control of the quality, scope and nature of the education the children will receive, and just who our Sub A teachers will be admitting to their classes, noting both strengths and weaknesses. Miss Hartzenberg of the GraaffMReinet Teacheris College is the new teacher., A Miss Hartzenberg is also the 22st member of our fullmtime teaching staff. This fact is particularly significant in the light of the new dispensatio fOr tGSChSPS. We all know by now that teachers were granted an increase in their salaries, with effect from October WQSA. But the 21 members of staff, according to the new .dispensation entitles us to 3 Vice Principal for Heads of Departments? as they are known. Also, our status moves to the equivalent of what was a Pl school, that is 6OO pupils or more. So with regard to status, we are on a par with all the very much larger schools in the Cape. The promotional opportunity of such a situation as you can readily grasp, will mean the upgrading of an already 9 fescellent staff., ,l . thisilyear bythe P.T.A. is the completion of a giving a history in pictures of our school, The edition is complete and may be viewed at school, Vhesley Poole, who is in-charge of the project,is to be congratulated this important contribution to the life.and history of the school. 1' on The tuckshop is probably one of the most complex and important P.T.A, jobs in the school and we are fortunate in having the duo of Mrs Pat Heins and Mrs Lee Reid in charge, Thank you to these ladies. No report would be complete without mentioning the contribution of the lady from the United States, Mrs Linda Crowley, With the knowledge gained overseas, she has given us a fresh perspective on P.T,A. matters and methods. The Junior section of computer club is in her charge and many of our Sub A's, B's and Std l's can now operate and understand a computer, thanks to her good teaching. Also, she and her husband Jim have personally contributed hundreds of rands to the school in the form of many items, e.g. furniture and . carpets, suitable for school use. The Fete which we are having early next year is her portfolio, So it was with deep regret and disappointment that we heard of her having to leave us in December, Naturally we are very pleased to hear of Jimls business promotion, but at the same time we are sad that the school will be losing her services. We wish the:CP0WlSyS every success in their new home and work in A Germany and thank them sincerely for their contribution to Muizenberg' A Junior School. ,A SPORT AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES: . . Those who have received the highest honours in sport this year have been Edward Gluckman iJudoJ,'Julie Lane SJudoJ, Martin Gluckman fJudo7,' r Wayne van Schoor lJudoJ and Paul Cluer CGymnasticsD,all of whom received Western ProvinceCblours'and whose names are recorded on the Honours Board, - A' ' V' Building up a tradition often takes many years, especially in the realm of sport.i It is heartening therefore to note that the groundwork done is now bearing fruit. Our youngsters are moving up into.that tradition, are caught up in it and so the tradition is carried forward . and improved upon, I shall therefore not be picking out a particular sport - this may be scrutinized in the school magazine H for improvement has been in all spheres, I As far as facilities are concerned, I have much pleasure in reporting that the School Committee have sanctioned the construction of a muchnneeded and long overdue maintenanceufree cricket pitch at Sandvlei, for Withu out this basic facility there can be no hope of improving our cricket. We thank Mr John Arenhold'ISchool Committee Memberb for his invaluable1 assistance and interest in this project, Mr Innes hasfkindly agreed to- construct the pitcha' 1' - 'V ' ' ' Mfr - ' On the cultural side the fastest growth-point has undoubtedly been the music department,especia11y the number of recorder players under the guidance of Miss S. Turner. ' Also, our'K.G. Choir was brought' into being under the direction of Mrs Trautmannythereby increasing the number of choirs to 3 - we already have a Junior and Senior Choir thanks Ito Mrs Trautmann and Mrs Rabie.
