is RIEPORT 1985 The ehVigoratingQMuizenberg air has been at work again, for two of our teachers have married since joining our staff W Miss D. Daviswhannibal lStd.9l is now Mrs Hunt and Miss S. Hacking CJunior Special Class? is now Mrs Norman. We wish them and their husbands all the joy and blessings a happy marriage can bring. For good measure, Miss L. Povey lArtl has become engaged.l Such has been the growth of the reputation of the school that teachers of a very high calibre now apply for posts here and those that leave, leave only because of extraneous circumstances. And so it is that we bid farewell to Mrs A. Fickling lStd ll and Physical Education? whose husband has been transferred to Johannesburg. Likewise Mrs Su Scholtz lSub AJ is also heading for the Highveld where her husband is now employed. For health and family reasons Mrs B. McDonogh CSenior Special Class? has decided to take leave of teaching, for the time being anyway. ln the case of Mrs L. Walker, our librarian, her child is starting school next year and Mrs Walker will thus be occupied with fullntime domestic duties. Another stalwart who has given many years of his teaching life to Muizenberg Junior School is Mr Charles Gonin, who is not leaving teaching but is thinking of branching off into the remedical side of education. director of so many who has built up our is involved with children? able to do full justice at Muiaenberg Junior School. Cindy I know, will go from strength to strength in this newlyw chosen branch of professional theatre. Our Speech and Drama teacher, Mrs C. Just, the fabulous plays at Muizenberg Junior School and reputation as a school renowned for its plays, professional theatre full time and is thus not to her work as a Speech and Drama teacher here All the teachers I have mentioned we have come to admire and respect as professionals and friends, and we wish them well in their new areas of interest. A new post has been created as from January 1985, that of our PreuPrimary teacher who will take charge of the newlywcreated Muizenberg Junior PremPrimary School. This is an exciting step forward, because for the first time we have direct control of the quality, scope and nature of the education the children will receive, and just who our Sub A teachers will be admitting to their classes, noting both strengths and weaknesses. Miss Hartzenberg of the GraaffMReinet Teacheris College is the new teacher., A Miss Hartzenberg is also the 22st member of our fullmtime teaching staff. This fact is particularly significant in the light of the new dispensatio fOr tGSChSPS. We all know by now that teachers were granted an increase in their salaries, with effect from October WQSA. But the 21 members of staff, according to the new .dispensation entitles us to 3 Vice Principal for Heads of Departments? as they are known. Also, our status moves to the equivalent of what was a Pl school, that is 6OO pupils or more. So with regard to status, we are on a par with all the very much larger schools in the Cape. The promotional opportunity of such a situation as you can readily grasp, will mean the upgrading of an already 9 fescellent staff., ,l .
