J.: MUlZENBERG JUNIOR DRAMA WORKSHOP y The Muizenberg Junior Drama Workshop, an extra-mural drama group WhiCh meets every Friday afternoon in the school hall, has gone from strength to strength during the past 12 months. During the second half of the year it was necessary to increase the number of classes from 3 to 4 owing to the demand for membership and by the end of the year all 4 groups were full to overflowing with prospective young actors and actresses, Add to this the fact that the weekly registers reflect an average of 99 per cent attendance during the year and it becomes clear that the workshop is both popular and successful and that the students thoroughly enjoy their weekly drama classes. It is imperative that mention be made of the two highly successful presentations which the drama group produced in 198a. ln this respect the two productions, both of which were directed by workshop teacher Glynn Day, were superb examples of the quality of the professional theatre work being taught to the students. ln June 'The Waiting Room' an extremely dramatic and difficult play to act and direct, was handled with sensitivity and emotion by the young actors and actresses. The production made an impact hard to describe and comments on the show ranged from VI have yet to see better acting from young people? to the simple 'By the way these young people act you would swear that they have been on stage for at least 10 yearsi. ln July the group tackled something completely different - a swinging musical which they put together in just under 3 weeks. This was YOlaf and the Ogre' and it was another resounding success - performed with zest and polish. Success of another kind was awaiting certain students in 198A - the opportunity to work as professional stage, radio and T,V, performers, There was great excitement when first little Duncan Pringle and James Crowley were selected to appear in a S,A.T.V, 'soapi commercial M with Shaun Montgomery providing the 'voice'. This was followed soon after by one of the senior members, Mark Ellis, landing the leading role in a 6 part adventure series for S.A.T V, entitled . 'Danger Coast' M which is to be filmed early next year, Other workshop drama students who acted professionally by providing voices for radio and T,V, commercials include Tom Hawkins, Daniella Booker, Clint Olivier, Mark Sampson and Jane Innes. 1984 has certainly put the Muizenberg Junior Drama Workshop on the A map - their work on stage and in the radio and T.V, studios has elicited nothing but praise for their discipline and professional approach to theatre m something which is of prime importance not only in acting but in life.
