i uteach our children to be publicespirited and care about others and thus several charities were supported this year namely, Boyle Town, Blisters for Bread, Christmas Stamp Fund, The Blind, The Aged, Round Table Xmas Toys, Shawco, Child Welfare and Sammy Centwamfeed. GENERAL .KNOWLEDGE C1UIZa . ' The General Knowledge Quiz always creates a great deal of interest and this year was no exception, the inter-house trophy was shared by Diaz and van der Stel this year. At the interwschools level, we once again won the Triangular between Westcott, Kirstenhof and ourselves for the 2nd year running. FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS: I am sure that there is not one person who has not been affected by A the worsening economic situation in this country. The Provincial Admmmistration, the Education Department, the Muizenberg Junior School are naturally also affected. l have a list of 3 typed pages long on the material requirements of the school, but there is simply not the money to acquire all of these things for our children. Your contribution to fund-raising, which this year has been considerable and demanding, and for which I sincerely thank you, has been invaluable but much of the money has been used for the everyday maintenance and running costs of the school which are becoming more and more expensive, As we see it, this position is not likely to improve until late next year. A gloomy future, but there is a ray of hope. we have at this school resources which are probably unequalled at any school anywhere H and I refer here to our human resources. lt is on our human resources that we have to fall back on and rely very heavily next year. The vanguard - those in front - will of course be the teachers, and how fortunate we are to have teachensof the calibre of the Muizenberg Junior School staff. They will be involved in a period of consolidation begun this year, with expansion next year of existing facilities in the form of raising academic standards, encouraging reading through the I.R.P.g there is the Gifted Child Programme, Computer Studies and the Computer Club, Outdoor Education Cwe are devising our own programme for Std 4 and 53 and the upgrading of the Prefect Leadership Course - a weekend is planned in March. The Video Recorder, Choir Stands, the starting blocks, the extra computers lwe are receiving only one next yearD,'a lighting and sound system for our stage - all these and many other necessary items will have to wait a little longer. But we are not regressing, we are not stepping back. Like you I love this school and while I am Principal I will not allow the standards we have attained and the hard work of many, to be dissipated., It is my personal ambition to make this school, and I say this unashamedly it is my personal ambition to make this school stand out above all others as the very best and as we have already done, to continue to take the lead in the development of education - the education of your children. ' ' ' The human resource that is indispensable in the first and final - instance is you, the parent. And to you the parents l make a special appeal. Let us be partners, in the fullest sense of the word, in the education of your child. Without you the whole educational situation is lop-sidedg with your help and interest education becomes an exciting prospect with never-ending possibilities to what your child can learn, n0t only to become a knowledgeable student, but also, later on, a , well-balanced adult, ,. g 4,,. , I It P tnefJoHNsoN'fam11y

fx f scaootcommiinga cmntamlwls REPOR-li f.. . ' 1984 Has been a tough year economically and has created greater burdens on every household w what with Q inflation - the weakness of gold U unemploymnet rising' e interest rates at historical heights it would be ludicrous for me to say it didnit have an effect on the school. Obviously, P.T.A, Fundraising didnvt achieve the heights of yesteryears what with the rand at SOZ of its past value, but I must hasten to add their achievements were outstanding under these circumstances. Averil Myers and her loyal team are to be congratulated on this fine effort, 198A Also saw a change in the Committeeq Mr Mike Cluer, a Committee member, resigned due to business commitmentsu l thank Mike for his loyal support over the past few years and his enthusiam and down to earth approach will be missed. However, the school was very fortunate in acquiring Mr RusqrCrowhurst to fill this vacancyt Rusty is a lawyer by profession and can only be a great asset to Muizenberg Junior School. Whilst on the subject of the Committee I would like to take this opportunity of thanking them most sincerely for their dedication, enthusiasm, loyalty and support they have given to me as Chairman and all to the benefit of the school. As you are aware, like the P.T,A,, the Committee is totally voluntary. Finally, justice wouldnft be done if I didnlt express my gratitude to Mr Just and his staffo Those parents who have attended the various functions of the school? there can be no doubt in their minds as to the high quality of professionalism. To you, Mr Just and the staff, this Committee congratulates you on the fine achievements you have accomplished over the last couple of yearsn In closing, I wish to leave you with one thought for the future of Muizenberg Junior School, This school, like any other, cannot survive without the total support of all concernedo Lets not leave this important task to the minority. I know it is difficult as circumstances are inclined to dictate oneis life, but every bit of help, no matter how small, would be appreciated.
