SCHOOL COMMITTEE ' Under the outstanding leadership of Chairman and its facilities, for Leon Shirk, your Head - for operating all the for their support, Graeme Wynne, our School Committee has been streamlined to an effective noenonsense group of people Yet school matters are always discussed and dealt with sympathetically and with understanding, Thus to our School Committee I say, on your behalf, a very big thank you for their interest in and service to the School. P,T.A, Q P,T,A, PROJECTS We were fortunate in having a harduworking P,T,A, this year under the leadership of Mr Jeremy Poole and thank the task well done, A fundwraising innovation delegating of responsibility to the parents and this has resulted in not only a greater also an increased sum of money collected, Committee for a difficult this year has been the of the various classes variety of projects but Our thanks go to these parents also. Details are listed elsewhere in this magazine, The Tuckshop is probably one of the most P,T,A, jobs in the school and we were in the highly organized Mrs Joke Spijker at due to illchealth she could not continue o complex and important of the fortunate position of the helm but unfortunately having Her successor, Mrs Pat Albrecht, has run the tuckshop with a firm and efficient hand, To these ladies, a grateful thank you, For the magnificent floral decoration at Prize Giving we say thank you to Mrs Bawden and Mrs Wynne, P.T,A, Cloth with the School badge was on view at Prize Giving for the first time, To make sure that you all get a cup of tea after functions, Mrs Myers and her band of helpers are congratulated on the capable way in which they carry out this duty, SPORT AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES Sport and the usual cultural activities have pro rcssed steadil this ear, S ' - C Q Y Y The junior and the middle section of the school were given lots of extra attention this year, for this is where our future success has its origins, To the dedicated coaches and teachers who toil, often unsung and away from the limelight, we are indeed grateful, In the limelight are our 5 Western Province Representatives this year, namely Paul Lane, Julie Lane, Shelley Sherman fJudoP9 Johann Mostert Clce Skating? and Linda Bosch CBiathlonJ, Their names are recorded on the Honours Board at the back of the Muizenberg Junior School Hall, Very much in the limelight of course are our drama productions, WThe Magic Lighterm directed by Cindy Just deserves special mention as it was of an exceptionally high standard, The play was recorded on video tape, yet another new innovation, by the Freeman family. contd! , This page is sponsoredby the C, JOHNSON family .liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiilhx

Our playgrounds were completely resurfaced and new tennisette and netball courts establishedn lt is now . pleasurable and safe to play on these courts and I hope our sport will improve accordingly, To Mr Laing CSecretary of the School Board? and his hardworking staff, we say a special thank you. Neatness badges for personal appearance were introduced this year and a Zibi trophy for the cleanest and litterafree classroom will be presented next yearo A Scripture Union Bible Quiz team saw its genesis this year, winning the regional Bible Quiz Trophy in its first year of competitionn The lnterwhouse General Knowledge Quiz was also established for the first time this yearo Consisting of a Junior CStd I H ll? HUG H Senior CStd Ill Q V7 section, it was easily won by Diaz in its inaugural year, the trophy being donated and awarded by Mr P, Bishopl FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS You will recall that our theme for this year was Change and Renewal in Education. Although we are always pledged to renewal and the seeking of better ways to educate our children, a concurrent programme of consolidation will be implemented very firmly next yearn By this I mean consolidation of programmes already operational in the School but requiring now a more practical implementations ln popular terminology, we are really going to get down to the nittyegritty of the new developments which includes their thorough application. I mention just a few: the TDA,TQ programme, fledgling but already highly successful in helping remedial and underachieving pupils who have specific weaknesses, eng. Maths and Englishg The Gifted!CreativeX Talented Programme, also in its infancy, but full of exciting prospects: expanding the use of the already popular computer with its infinite capabilities and subject choices to help the teacher and child with lessons and learning, Next year also sees the introduction of a prefect leadership course involving several schools, thus enhancing our own course begun here 2 years ago, lt is envisaged that the prefects and Principal will go off to camp for at least two days and structured workshops will be presented, At foundation level we have the introduction of a K,G, Choir with Mrs Trautmannyassisted by 5Mrs Rabie, in charge, This means we have 3 choirs from Sub A to Std V, also an ideal long sought aftero All the improvements l have mentioned cannot be carried out unless we have a willing and competent staffn This we have and next year sees the coming of topeclasspersonnel to continue the work begun by those who are retiring this years I ask the parents and teachers who are already part of this special Muizenberg Junior School family to make next year a truly memorable, watershed year for the School? which will cause the name of our School to be spoken of with even greater respect and admiration than at presento contd!
