Ziirts Sieat U their own little logo, They received sponsoredmb, 1 qdea themu ,F shirts and Tog bags as the season progressed, lmGjnmOUg team Spirit, 'Q selves into a unit, played with infectious enthusiasm an 1 9 , and, by the end of the rugby seaSOUa this little band of unknowns Y turned out to be the Vshowpiecel rugby side at Muizenberg Junior Scheola , . ,1 fl EL: 111 1, Everyone knew of the Guppies, The parental support WHS Phenomenal M and their style of play was W,P. rugby at grassroot level, We held 1 ., 30 well attended practices, Played 16 matches, which included 3 15 friendly games, y M Q The boys were coached the basic principles of Rugby, LUCY MGUHSSU , i 5 to curb their persistent individuality and selfishness as they realized ff the value of playing 15 man rugby. At home, or away, our players were W y conscious of the pride and privilege of playing in the correct official I ,El . . L colours of a team representing their school, is wi V. 11, 2 4 The team learnt about injuries, warming up, rules and sportsmanship, Q? Their selfediscipline became more evident as the season progressed, and Q in the second half of the rugby season they hit a purple patch where Q they had five successive wins without having a point scored against them at Of the sixteen matches mentioned above, we lost 6 and won 18, We Q scored a total of 248 points during the season, while 146 points were ,Q scored against us, 13 , , W . . QQ We had some exciting wins, and some narrow losses, but the 1983 up Guppies were easy to motivate, their enthusiasm was refreshing W which PM made my coaching year enjoyable, 'liz L rw Let us build from our fledgling Guppies, and in years to come be able my to fill the gaps that our W,P, players will leave for us.
