llthl elllifj The athletics practices at Zandvlei were so well attended that the squad was divided into sprinters and long distance runners, Under the watchful eye of Ian Graney, a past pupil, the athletes concentrated on roadwork during afternoon practices and turned out for time trials at the early morning sessions, This enthusiastic group trained consistently throughout the season and for the first time we were represented in all three age groups in the 1000m event at the Buren meeting, Tom Hawkins represented Buren at the Cape Primary Schools meeting in Bellville, Of the sprinters, the best performances were recorded at Buren by Mervyn Lewis, Colin Milne, Roland Graney, Sean Fish, Gregg Liebenberg and Shelley Barnett. Colin, Shelley, Sean and Roland represented Buren at the Bellville meeting, Our strength, or our speed, lay in our relay teams, Their excellent teamwork and team spirit certainly inspired all of us, Our Vlittle onesv as the Under 6 and 7 athletes were affectionately known, thrived on the assistance given by many willing parents, I To everyone who helped to make the athletics season such an enjoyable one, a great Thank You.
