CLASS HI TORY When the lndran summer made rts appearance n 1931 a group of l90 seventh grade students entered Muhlenberg After many eventful years of partrcrpatron rn every one of the many school aCtlVltlCS a group of l I5 senlors are to be graduated Durrng the seventh grade year one sectron presented a short skrt rn as embly entrtled Aunt Letrtla Prescrrbes rn whrch Charlotte Hermbach and Lynn Althous portrayed leads Also durrng that semester I8 pre ent senrors enacted varrou roles rn the operetta Dawn Boy An Easter pageant Dead and Rrsen was grven by members of what was then the BA group under the drrectron of Mrs H A Ramsay t acher of Engll h It rs also rmportant not to forget the very amusing productron Clark s Famous Crrcus whrch at the tsme brought forth the talent of the 8E sectron Helen Beamesderfer won the Amerrcan Legron Award rn erghth grade and the Woman s Club awards ln nrnth grade went to Wlllram Dretrrch and Betty Llarre Voeste rn recognrtron of therr scholastrc achreve ments At County Freld Day competrtron Harold Lueders won thrrd place rn geography rn erghth grade The comedy Mama s Baby Boy voted one of he best assembly program of that year was pre sented by the nrnth grade under the drrectron of C Ha sler teacher of Englrsh Helen Beamesclerfer and Russell Ogan who took the leadlng parts were assrsted by several other members of the class rn the castrng ln the presentatron of the operetta The Slrp of a Slrpper 33 youthful members of the junror hnh chorus took parts rn the productron ln nrnth grade Rrchard Fuller and Harold Lueders won thrrd rn hrstory and hrst rn geography respec trvely to represent Muhlenberg rn those subjects at the Kutztown Freld Meet When the 4l ers were labonng through therr tenth year of schoolrng a group of twenty one musrcally mrnded students partook rn the light opera The Mrkado The results of heated class electron determrn d that Stanley Clarke should gurde the eleventh grade members as class presrdent Other OHICCYS elected were Paul Kurtz vrce presrdent Emelro Santonr secre tary and Wrnrfred Frdler treasurer As tradrtron had made a junror dance fashion thrs class drdn t fall to contrnue that practrce Durrng the latter part of 39 40 term the Natronal Honor Socrety rncreased rts membershrp so as to rnclude rx members of the pre senror class which won the school s fir t Berks County and Drstrrct 3 soccer champronshrp Through the rndrvrdual efforts of Max Weller who placed econd for two years rn hrs specralty breast stroke at Penn State and the medley relay team whrch won econd at Lancaster brought Muhlenberg du honor The basketball team was prac trcally composed of only senrors The track team rncl.1ded ten twelfth grade students rn rts cope the newly organrzed ball team enlrsted several rn rts ranks Fourteen members partrcrpated rn the senror cla s productron of the comedy Tea Toper Tavern and thrrty two members assrsted Helen Beamesderfer and Ray lVlcKently who took leadmg parts un the productron of the operetta Tun ln Nme rad hopefuls played rn the orchestra srx rn the band and two were members of the schools dance band Thrs year frve senror cheerleaders cheered themselves hoarse durrng the basketball season Durrng the course of the year erght members of the class wer newly elected to the Natronal Honor Socrety The class of 4l holds the drstmctron of havmv had the first Muhlenberg Hr Y Club organrzed under the drrectron of R S Paden teacher of mechamcal 'lrawmv durrng the latter part of the school term havmg had I5 charter members rn rts scop The Hr Y Dance banquct and electron of new offrcers hrgh lrghted the years actrvrtres Oftrcers who piloted the class durrng rts semor year w re Wrllram Dretrrch presrdent Rrchard Wesner vrce presrdent Russell Ovan secretary and Wrnrfred rrdler trea urer The class trip was as usual a scenrc tour ofthe Hudson and a tour of West Pornt Also durrn the last days of school the annual Senror Prom was held On Thursday nrght the emors wrll recerxe their drploma and go on therr varrous ways but whrle the group wrll possrbly never meet as a whole body they wrll never forget therr class assoclatrons .
