First we pounded the streets of Winnsboro, search- ing for ads, then came the job of taking pictures, and finally, hardest of all, assembling all our materials and putting the finishing touches on the 1957 annual. We have laughed, despaired, and worked But we hope as the years roll by, our beautiful blue annual will repay all the work we put into it. When the first hint of autumn was felt and Jack Frost began his annual frolics, and sweaters and skirts replaced fluffy summer dresses, we knew football season was about to begin. As the year wore on, many happy occasions brightened our days One of the most important was that of an alumnus of M Z I , General Brice, returning to talk to his old Alma Mater Although General Brice made an excellent speech, we were most impressed by the fact that a graduate of Mount Zion could go so far Another, occasion was that of choosing the mental contestants. The ' brains were picked and they forged forth to Co lumbia, hoping to place Some did and some didn t But it was good for the rest of us dumb bunnies to realize that there were still a few students in the old school MENTAL CONTESTANTS FIRST ROW; Claire Holcomb, Barney Hoy, Mary McCright, Mary Cox, Travis Matthews, Billy Buchanan, Dan Ravenel. The Juniors worked, the teachers groaned at students missing classes, and the Seniors waited, but at 8:30 when the doors were thrown open and the glit- tering beauty of 11 Sea Fantasy was revealed, it was all worth it. The music was good, the food better, and all in all, it was a wonderful Junior-Senior. Class Lawyers JOE TIMMONS and JANET SCHMIDT Class Hi st or i an Class Prophet NELL Le GRANDE CLAIRE HOLCOMB Page Eighty-Nine CLASS HISTORY To include all the history of the class of 1957, we must look back a few very short years to the time when we entered high school as frightened Sub- Freshmen This was the fall of 1952, and thus we opened the first chapter of our high school days. Shortly after school opened, we were initiated and were (officially speaking) a part of high school. Our Freshman year rolled around and many of us joined various clubs, some were elected to hold offices, while others participated in sports We had our first share in a Junior - Senior when the servin St girls and doormen were chosen from the Sophomore Class for the gala event. 1955-56 - - We were now honorable Juniors and sporting our class rings. Money was the war cry that year! It was needed badly to give a success- ful banquet and dance honoring the Seniors Boother Go ose helped us along our paths by turning out to be our tremendous Junior Play hit However, our efforts were not in vain On May 4, 1957, we played hosts to the Seniors with our an- nual Juni or-S e nior Banquet. We chose as our theme Hawaiian Cruise . The same year we elected our Girl Staters, Tusitala Staff and Student Council President for our forthcoming Senior year. Our Junior year was saddened by the passing of our dear friend and classmate, Adrian Wilkes. Adrian was a true and faithful boy, beloved in the hearts of all of us His torch still burns brightly spiritually and he will always be with us in pur hearts. We began the last round of our journey in September, 1956. On April 26, 1957, we presented our Senior Play, Ah« Yesterday The Senior Superlatives, Miss Hi Miss, Miss Dt A, R. and graduation marshals and ushers were chosen as the long awaited time drew near. Once again we were to attend a Junior-Senior Banquet. The memor- able day was May 3, and the theme chosen by the Juniors was Sea Fantasy. 11 The agenda for the remaining days of May included Class Night, May 17, Baccalaureate Sermon, May 19, and Commencement exercises. May 21. The last chapter of a book usually closes with two words. The End. The last chapter of our high schooldays closes also with two words, Omega and Alpha; The end of our school days and the beginning of our adventure .into adult life. This is the history of our class - the Class of 1957 NELL LeGRANDE Class Historian Mount Zion, may your light burn brighter than ever before And linger on and on for evermore. Page Ninety CLASS NIGHT Mount Zion, we bid three fond farewell This day with heavy heart The saddest of all occasions Is when dear friends must part. We hold our heads up high, and smile. No one should even guess The radiant light upon each face Is not pure happiness We pause to thank our patient teachers For interest they have shown; And humbly ask them to forgive The class for each small wrong Mount Zion, we bid to thee farewell. Though another door appears. The memories of these precious hours Will linger through the years. CLASS POET - Ruby Nell Black Usherss BOBBY GLADDEN, PEPPER PHILLIPS, BARBARA JENNINGS, TINA KETCHIN.
