Class of 48 The Senior Class of 1948 is the first class to graduate from the twelfth grade at Mount 2ion. This class consists of eleven boys and one girl. Most of the boys have participated in all athletic activities offered by the school: football, basket- ball, and baseball. The class of 1948 has been active in various clubs: Glee Club, Beta Club, and Student Council, In addition, the members have made a valuable con- tribution to the band. Most of the members received an eleventh grade diploma last year and this year will receive a twelfth grade diploma, Jerome Sykes I I 4 ; : r: 3-v.;.rr_j= CLASS OF 1949 Boulv re Puggy Base Joyce Brabham Betty Sne Gannon Mary Babb Cooper Merlyn Cooper Annette Christie Boris Edenfield Albert Driggers Bertha Dominy Buck George Christine George Allen Geddings La Verne Enloe Betty Je an Hartin 3etty Hardy Doris Gunter Luther tJ onn Kirtpatrick hennett Hunt Revonne Hollis Mary Herndon Jack MeCants Helle Leagon Tommy Loftin mizm She del Alan Shedd Susanne Smarr Hazel Kamsey i zabeth Peake Audrey MeMastar Jinny Pate Bonnie Sue Banda11 Farris Plyier Simmy Pope Turnice ann Times Harold Tisane Tweedie Traylor Elizabeth Turner Zan Vanderford Ruth Y rna ore Earline Back in 1944 the 3. 0 State Board of Education scheduled a twelve-grade program throughout the state. Since we were In the eighth grade at the time, we, the class of 1949, shall be the first class to receive a regular twelfth-grade diploma. When we first heard the news that we would have to go to school an extra year, we groaned and complained endlessly, but now as we complete eleven years of school work, we are glad that we have before us another year at olef MZI. We feel that we have another year to continue our studies and to take part in all the activities that mean so much in cur school life. This year we have constantly had one question before us— are we juniors for two years or seniors for two years--but we have definitely decided in favor of being seniors 1 Along with this being nseniors” twice we have the priviledge of being a class of two annuals and two ‘'senior class” plays. We didn’t want this year to pass unnoticed just because we did not have a graduating class of the average size. So we are presenting this yearbook to the student body to mark this year of transition. We are all looking forward to a big year in 1948-1949!
