1944 TUSITAL A TUSITALA 1944 Published by the class of NINETEEN HUNDRED AND FORTY-FOUR for the STUDENT BODY OF MOUNT ZION INSTITUTE WINNSBORO, S. C. FOREWORD During these years of war and world conflict, our country strives to carry forward the Monroe Doctrine v, •'1' w '■ '£l '’ ■ ' through our Presidents Good Neighbor Policy. And we, the class of 1944, knowing something of the power and influence that such a feeling of friendship among the twenty-one nations can wield in the future world peace, have selected three nearby countries, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil as inspiration for our art work, and have chosen for the theme of our annual— The Good Neighbor Policy. DEDICATION Because we are looking away from ourselves to the world out- side, and because we are wishing for all men near and far, the great freedoms, we dedicate this, our annual for 1944, to Our Good Neighbors with the hope that this sincere gesture of ours may be as the light of a candle shining from a small space, which shall be passed on until this whole land of ours may be aflame with good-will for, and brotherly co-operation with, all of our neighbors in other lands. VIEWS OUR ALMA MATER On the hills of dear old Fairfield Proudly stands our school; All hail to thee, our AJma Mater, Conquer and prevail. Loyal students ever loving. Honor and obey. All hail to thee, our Alma Mater, Mount Zion, all hail! 8 OUR PRINCIPAL ROBERT FRANKLIN HIGBE ■yfr T w- f THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES Left to right: J. W. Jelks, A. E. Davis, Mrs. S. R. McMaster, M. H. GOUDELOCK ..................................................Treasurer ON THE LIGHT, FANTASTIC TOE Four years ago to high school we came. Welcomed by the paddle, greeted with disdain; Things were strange at first, each of us a kid. But we began to like this place, acting as others did. Sophomores! A year looked forward to; Hendrix had a broken arm, Mary Byrd the flu. Glamorous hair-dos; lipstick on spoon and cup. Let the world know it, we were growing up! As Juniors, in Spring Fever, our talents were given a chance. Our social life high-lighted by the Junior-Senior dance. We sold candy at recess and made a lot of money And the many fusses that we had now seem just plain funny. As Seniors we have reached the top; We dread the time our fun must stop. Publishing the annual, giving another play— Don't we wish that we could always live this way! —BOBBY TURNER. 14 GARY FRANKLIN BASS Boxing I; Basketball !; Class Vice-President 3; Cadet Corps 3, 4; Class Play 4.
