Healthy High School Ohio Mt. Healthy, Volume XXXI The Past, Preselhf, and Future 0 Mi. Healthy High School Seventy-eight years ago the first class of seniors was graduated from Mt. Healthy High School. In these seventy-eight years Mt. Healthy has grown from a small farming town to a city of 6200 people. Its quiet country toads have become busy thoroughfares, its farms have grown into subdivisions with many homes, and its high school has increased in size from a few students to 625. Early in the 1840's Mt. Healthy was divided into two school districts, one east and one west of the village's main street. There was a grade school. but it was not until 1891 that the first high school was established. This school offered a two-year course. Two students were graduated from the one-room, one teacher high school. As the years passed the school moved from a log cabin into successive brick buildings. Finally, a grey brick four- room schoolhouse was built where the Hunt Building now stands. A Mt. Healthy increased in size, so did the school. Additional rooms were added to this building. In 1928 the present high school was built. Not even this building could absorb all the students. Plans are now being formulated for a new high school building which will be located on Adams Road. This new high school will have thirty classrooms, a library, and a cafeteria. It will provide for modern science instruction with labs, storage rooms, and special lecture rooms. It will be possible to make the rooms larger because of folding doors, A second stage will provide for additional classrooms and a gymnasium. Later stages will add new rooms and Space for music and little theaters. The first stage of this new Mt. Healthy High School will be completed in September of 1962. l l i l 3 ll . wv,,4p-.wq-v Sharon Russo of Monfort Heights. Nancy Rees of Finneytown, and Wally Etzel of Mt. Healthy leave school after another busy day. This will be the last year that students from Monfort Heights and Finney- town will come to Mt. Healthy. Many a student has walked up this walk since the present high school has been built. The Halls of Healthy As each class ends, heavy traffic begins! Out of the doors stream students to their lockers, next classes, or friends. it's quite a struggle to get through the conges- tion of peeple, but students seem to arrive at their destinations on time. You're late; the game has already started, says Mrs. Ernst, as Mrs. Dieting looks on. , MM w, The halls are seldom this quiet. I J ' ' - 1 d: ' s 1 k n 4K IQMMITIHM' W1. MINI!!! em mun I HSKJEW 1 . Throughout the year as our work on this yearbook has progressed we have come to realize the importance of having someone who lends her help and knowledge so freely and willingly. Miss Frost in her early years at Mt, Healthy was responsible for the publication of the school's first newspaper, THE TATLER, and also for the organization of the school's yearbook. the ZEM ZEM. It is therefore very fitting that we should honor Miss Frost. Her good humor, patience, and ability make working on the ZEM ZEM worthwhile. The main purpose of the administration is to educate and instruct students so that they in turn can enrich and better their lives. A person of high caliber is required for this administrative task; he must be able to combine his knowledge and personality to obtain the greatest amount of co-operation and also the will to learn. h 4950;! During their three -day stay, they saw all the points of interest at the nation's Capital. Among the places which they found most interesting were the Supreme Court Build- ing, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Capitol. After three days of no school and fun, they arrived back in Cincin- nati. Although everyone was worn out, they all agreed that they had never had more fun in their lives. Make sure you pick out the right one. Mollie and Jane look a bit tired after sightseeing all day. They'll never forget their tour of the Capitol. Abercrombie, C. Bedson, P. Bowman, M. Cagle, B. Davis, D. Driscoll, E. Alexander, K. Beisner, S. Braunwart, G. Cann, S. Day, B. Droste, J. Anspach, E. J 'aiaz? t It is now customary at Mt. Healthy to have a Freshman Recognition Day. Its purpose is to ac- quaint incoming students with procedures and ac- tivities of the high school. Each freshman is as- signed to a big brother or sister, who assists in this program. An assembly is held at which the or- ganizations of the school are explained. Freshmen longingly look ahead to their Senior year when they may enjoy privileges of upper classmen. Do you enjoy your canine training, boys? Upper- classmen surely put Freshmen through some awk- ward maneuvers. You and your classmates certainly look striking in your big bows, Bev. 58 Albright, J. Bessey, T. Borders, S. Bridges, B. The parade consisted of ten floats adapted to the theme, Past and Present Mt. Healthy. At half-time the winners in the float competition were announced. Horne EC. Club's Ye Old Tailor Shoppe came in third, the Seniors' Showboat was second, and the Senior Hi-Y was first. The Juniors were certainly happy when their candidate, Bonnie Case, was crowned Queen. A dozen roses, a crown, and a kiss concluded the ceremonies of an evening which all will remember. i I I i I l 116 l Bonnie Case .............. Junior Class . Billie Chain ..............
