HISIOIY of Mt Healthy Hlgh School WUTH plans belng made for addltlon to the hlgh school blllldlflf., one begms to thmk about bulldmgs of other years whlch have housed Mt Healthy schools Where the grade school bulldmg now stands there used to be a f0Ll1 loom brlck structure As years went by two rooms were added and st1ll later two more rooms The communltx grew the school was very crowded old and out of date After many publlc meetlngs work and ag1tat1on the old blllldlllg was torn down and the present one erected 1n 1910 1911 Thls new bulldlng was a source of prlde to Mt Healthy It was large enough for the elementary grades and also the hlgh school and everyone supposed that It would serxe for many many years But ln a comparatlvely short tlme th1s structure too was outgrown and 1n 1928 a separate blllldlflg was constructed to house the h1gh school In early days there was no establlshed course of study for h1gh school If you finlshed the elghth grade you mlght take subjects taught by the prmclpal and qult when you were ready to do so In 1893 Mr N H Bartlett was appolnted prlnclpal He was a progres sue man wlth ld93S for an establlshed course of study for a two year hlgh school When the student completed th1s course he was to be awarded a d1ploma at pubhc commencement exerclses These ldeas caused a great st1r Glrls thouflh people would r1d1cule them 1f they carrled thelr edu catlon so far But 1n June 1895 two brave boys dehxered oratlons and recelxed the first dlplomas ever granted by Mt Healthy Hlgh School On th1s occa von the Chrlstvan Church served as host to the school The followmg year seven glrls and one boy were graduated The s1ze of the classes varled frcm year to year but ln 1899 only one student was graduated Several whlte students and one colored gxrl made up the class They had studled and played together throughout thelr years ln school but at graduatlon tlme the whlte puplls refused to recelye dlplo mas wlth the colored glrl and so she had commencement QXCTCIQCS all for herself In 1909 the hlgh school offered a three year course and ln 1912 began the present standard four year currrculum In 1942 the largest class 78 students recelxed dlplomas Thls year ma1ks the graduatlon of the fifty thlrd class Pr1nc1pals through the years have been Mr Malsberry Mr Frank Crane Mr Harry Crane Mr U H Bartlett Mr C A Hunt Mr M Duvall Mr A W Mllner and now Mr D T H111 For the abole znterestulg znformatlon the 7em Zem zs grateful to Mrs Mana E Dzserens graduate of Mt Healthy Hugh School and former member of the Board of Educatzon and teacher rn the elementary school Pane Three . 4 O . . . . . .
