GIRL ' A D BOYS' STATE During the short week at the American Legion Auxiliary Girls' State I gained valuable knowledge of how our state government and how an American citizen, play an important part in our lives today. I also had the privilege of meeting many wonderful girls that I will never forget. Girls' State will always be a part of me and I hope sincerely that Girls' State will continue to be a success and wish that every girl could share the experience that I shall always carry with me wher- ever I go. 3 Rick Chappell Betty Adan Last summer I had what I expect shall be one of my life's most wonderful experiences. l attended California Boys' State, which is one week of fun and education sponsored by the American Legion. We held city, county, and state elections and my political party made a clean sweep of the elections. I am sure I will never again have another experience like Boys' State. I came back with a greater knowledge ot the duties and responsibilities we have as citizens of this great country ot ours. ROW ONE: S. Liu, B. Stagg, B. Adan, D. Christensen, J.Bown, D.Kingman, P. E CHANGE TU DENTS l959-1960 What is this year? This is the happiest, greatest and nicest year for me. New family, new friends, new experiences, new school and new country. Everything is new for me. Everything is ex- citing for me. Who knows how much I have learned? Who knows how much I love my second home coun- try, the United States? Who knows how much I thank the American Field Service which gave me a chance to meet all of you, the Eagles? I never will forget EAGLES which is the symbol of our alma mater, the American Field Service, and the United States. Thank all of you for being friendly and teaching me so many things. I hope you don't forget that there is a little girl who is always hoping good luck to all of you and Mountain View High School from over the Pacific Ocean. K. Kurokawa D. Lezchuk Thanks to all who have made the American Field Service Exchange Program a success in our school. Through my wonderful experiences in Sweden I now realize the problems confronted by a foreigner in a new land with a minimum knowledge of the language and culture, for I was the foreigner last summer. My Swedish family was wonderful and taught me much about the lives of the peace-loving, friendly Swedish people. I noted many similarities and differences between our cultures and through these comparisons, I learned that the Swedish people are basically the same as Americans. As the A.F.S. motto says: Walk together, talk together, O ye people of the earth. Then, and only then shall we have peace.
