In addition to gaining invaluable experience in practical government, I also made lifelong friendships. I will always remember the wonderful women from the American Legion Auxiliary who made Girls' State such a great success. One of the most interesting highlights of this year's Girls' State was the flu epidemic, which affected most of us. I hope that this program will continue to be a great success for years to come, for it is of tremendous benefit to the girls, their schools, and their country. CAROLE KING -CAROLE KING BOYS' STATE Boys' State was one of my greatest experiences. It is a program set up by the American Legion which boys representing high schools from all over the state attend. They come together for ten days during the latter part of June at the Sacramento State Fair Grounds. Here they set up mock state X county, and city governments. We had great fun organizing variety and music shows, campaigning for yi. offices, playing athletics and making new friends. This, together with other numerous incidents, makes Boys' State a truly wonderful and unforgettable experience. Through it, not only was I able to learn more about the functions of the government, but I also became more aware of the duties and privileges as a citizen. -LANCE NAGAYAMA
