Qffi i W .-i iii- 4 x CT 49 MARY ALICE ELAM Commercial B, A, , Colorado State College of Education COMMERCIAL Fundamentals of typewriting, business letter-writing, and acc- uracy have been the key emphasis of the lst year typing classes, The Znd year class dwelled mainly on speed with accuracy, with business letters and special forms through the year. There are 84 students enrolled in typing l and ll classes this year. Mrs. Elam is shown at the bottom left with one of the lst year Classes, Gregg Certificates were presented all through the year. The shorthand classes concentrated on speed allthrough the year. Gregg Shorthand Certificates were given for speeds ranging from 60, 80, 100, 120, to 140 words per minute. These certificates were received by all students who passed the tests. The ll Year shorthand class is shown at the bottom right. They are: Mrs. Elam, instructorg Betty Blake, Peggy Alley, Shirley Tucker, Imogene Fout, Joan Durnell, and Daisy Morris. FRENCH Translating French into English and English into French have been the main points of Miss Nelson's ll French class this year. They have French magazines, with which they keep up with the political situations. French records help to improve their speaking ability of the language. Preparing and de- monstrating the salads in the picture above are: Patsy Huett, Leota Russell, Betty Nystrom, and Connie Ed- wards. In the backgroundis therest of the class watch- ing the procedure. They have also covered a unit on handicrafts. They made bronze plates and carved belts and purses from leather. Shown above are: Jessie Knight, Fern Butterfield, Cora Messick, Marie Russ- ell, Janice McCracken, Mary Lou Brovsm, and Mary Walker. The first year students covered units on clothing, cook- ing, and grooming. With 38 members this year, the FHA girls have gain- ed much recognition in their own department for doing outstanding projects. One of the largest projects under- taken by them this year was the selling of Christmas cards and pencils with the Bomber basketball schedule printed on them. MATHEMATICS A full schedule of mathematics is on the agenda of the math teachers this year. Mr. Clinkingbeard has 3 classes of algebra 1, a high school math. class, and a business arithmetic class. Mr. Pierce teaches algebra 11 and geometry. In the picture below is one of Mr. Clinkingbeard's albebra 1 classes. WAYNE CLINKINGBEARD Mathematics B, S. , Ouachita College ' ' g It Q -sf , 'ul X A c4f ' A HOWARD PIERCE Mathematics, Science B.S., College of the Ozarks Chemistry students have gained a wide knowledge of their science this year, under the direction of Mrs. Lyle. Experiments are used to illustrate certain types of chemical reactions. Mr. Pierce teaches the biology class in the same classroom, using much of the same apparatus. Below are some of the chemistry class decomposing mercuric oxide. They are: Carroll Kytle, Dickie Dahlen, SonnyEkdah1, Junior Deatherange, Jim Bryant, Mickey Nearn, Curtis Brooks, and Ed Bradley.
