0122122 QFCIC Learning the arts of dictation and trans- cription has been the main objective of the shorthand classes this year. Shown at the left is Miss Hawkins giving dictation to her first year class. czezz ce The science department has added a number of new instructional aids this year, also some new apparatus for the science laboratory. The Biology class has been studying the various parts of the body by dissecting different species of animal life. The chemistry class was busy getting some of the basic ideas of chem- istry. Shown at right is Mr. Lofton's chemistry class preparing oxygen in the laboratory, In the first year typing classes this year speed and accuracy have been the out- standing points. In the second year typing classes equal emphases were given to voca- tional and personal use of the typewriter. Miss Hawkins is shown at the right with one of her second year classes.

Shown at the right are Mrs. jones and the student librarians. Communication of ideas through speak- ing as well as writing is a keystone of English III and IV classes. Class members talk to inform, to explain, to persuade, using their skill in finding information, reading carefully, and organizing their in- formation and ideas. Terry Nearn is shown at right giving a speech to a senior class. l Gary Keeter and Carroll Dean Kytle found the dictionary valuable for word study in English 10. Phyllis Matthews was one who gave magazine reports.
