The Mt. de Sales campus has un- dergone a dramatic change during Sister’s tenure. De Sales Hall, Burke Hall, Rose Place and the Middle School - all these facilities have come into use. Property near the campus has been purchased, to meet future needs, which are not yet specific. This campus expansion is all part of a program of develop- ment that Sister Fidelis began in 1978. The focus of our development program is to identify those sources of support - support of all kinds, not just financial - that can help assure that MDS can move into the future with confidence. The Development Program has had a strong beginning under Sister’s guidance, and it is this lifeline to our future that represents another challenge successfully met. Sister Fidelis helped MDS to meet these challenges, but she has left her mark here in other ways as well. Our mixed chorus is an excellent ex- ample of the dedication that Sister feels for the arts, and her determina- Sister said goodbye to many of her friends at Can- dielight Carol service and to the student body on December 18th tion that our students have the chance to develop an appreciation for the arts in their years here. Sister recalls that ‘‘in the traditions of Mt. de Sales, the arts were significantly important to the educated young lady.’’ Her efforts to revive the arts at MDS have begun to be appreciat- ed. Much changed during those 17% years. They occurred during Sister Fidelis’ tenure, and were ac- complished with the help and coop- eration of parents, teachers, friends and students. Sister led MDS, com- bining her insight and energy with the talents and enthusiasm of others, to produce an institution characterized by an attitude of ex- cellence. In accomplishing this mis- sion, Sister earned for herself the re- ward promised by the prophet Dan- iel: Those who instruct others to jus- tice will shine like stars for all eternity. Dedication 3
