A busy year has taken place within the walls of M.V.H.S. Yes, 1958 has been wonderful. It was productive for each student, and equally rewarding for each teacher. This constant deluge of acti- vity didn't start on the first day of school. lt went on all summer as well, for when the doors were opened this fall, the students were greeted with a new Home Economics room. The luster of this lovely new room could be matched only by the smile on Mrs. Colon's face as she met her first classes of a very eventful year. The school year started off with a bang! Football season! This was one of the most wonderful times in our busy year. The Homecoming celebration was perhaps the most magic evening for the M.V.H.S. stu- dents, especially for Queen Linda and her court. lt was truly a never-to-be-forgotten night for everyone there. Do you remember the minstrel show that the great men of the M Club pro- duced? The senior girls really tried to do as well with their Salvation Army skit, but, even with all the air that Midge blew through that big bass horn, it just didn't go over! bed. The highlight of the year, of course, was that wonder- ful addition to our trophy case. Mt. Vernon was the con- ference champ, and we went to many extremes to show our pride. Many celebrations were held fboth in and out of school! and for the first time in the history of the school, an afternoon was spent in the gym indulging in our favorite activity, dancing to rock 'n roll! Our school had a most unwelcome visitor this fall, also. The flu-bug paid us a visit! If you were lucky enough to escape it, you got a free two-day vacation, but, unfortunately, the majority of us had to spend it in One cold Saturday morning this winter, several ambitious followers of our Youth Center clan, gathered at the City Hall, and gave the student dance hall anew coat of paint. The light green and pale pink were certainly a welcome change after having looked at those brownish- maroon walls for the last falmosti twenty years. About fifty percent of the paint went home in their hair and clothes, but the job had been accomplished.
