Blithe Spirit Materializes Though it was haunted by mysterious problems from the start of rehearsal. Blithe Spirit materialized on stage at Mt. Vernon on November 18, 19, and 20. Because of the many bizarre technical failures that were manifested while re¬ hearsing the play, the director con¬ sidered postponing it, but through the nose - to - the - grindstone efforts of several members of the drama depart¬ ment, the play was presented on sched¬ ule. Produced by Troupe 1779 of the International Thespian Society, and directed by A. Lee Pauley, Noel Coward ' s farcical comedy brought laughs to the audiences and revenue to the Thespian Troupe. The play starred Terry Colley, Kevin DiLallo, Susan DonneI, and Alison Wood. Terry Colley, as Madame Arcati, declares, There ' s a fly in my tea! Charles Condomine and the amorous ghost of his first wife, Elvira. Tension builds during the seance scene.

Gambling Runs Rampant At Mt. Vernon A private group of lunch-time gamblers pooling money in the media center. Dice, cards, and phoney money were spotlighted on November 12, when the Key Club sponsored its annual Las Vegas Night, a high¬ ly successful fund-raising event. For a set fee, prospective gam¬ blers purchased a package of phon¬ ey money, with which they were free to gamble at any of the many available games—as long as the phoney money held out. The ul¬ timate goal was to win the door prize, but for those who did not win, there was sufficient consola¬ tion in matching wits with Lady Luck.

Cerebral Goals Preserved By Two Groups The true purpose for high school is often overshadowed by numer¬ ous extracurricular activities. T here are, however, two organizations which preserve academic goals: the National Honor Society and the It ' s Academic team. In the fall and spring, the Na¬ tional Honor Society accepts ap¬ plications for membership. Those who meet the high standards for membership — character, leader¬ ship, scholarship, and citizenship — are notified and inducted within a few weeks. The It ' s Academic team is a group of seven people who pit their intellects against those of other area high schools in locally televised cerebral competitions. Although only three can partici¬ pate in a televised production, all team members are required to en¬ dure the same rigorous mental training. Team members not pic¬ tured here are: Jim Easton, Neil McDougall, Duane Maxwell, and Chris Rowland. ■ Hr r m j • 1 1 i 1 r r ’ : National Honor Society inductees take pledge. On the air with L.
