lomecoming Spirits Not Dampened By Rain Homecoming, ' 76 One could feel the excitement in the air, as Friday night drew nearer. Who was so-and-so taking to the dance? Who was going to be the Queen? Which class was going to win the float, the skit, and the cafeteria decorations? Finally, after an excrutiatingly long wait. Homecoming, with its theme, Places to eat, was upon Mount Vernon. Friday afternoon, it was decided that the Freshman Class, with ARNOLD ' S RESTAURANT, from Happy Days, had won the cafeteria decorations, while at the pep rally, the Seniors won the skit, with the Major Mouseketeer Club. That night, through the drizzle. Shannon Coleman became the 1976 Homecoming Queen, succeeding Lisa McGrath. After the Marching Majors honored Shannon with Miss Amer¬ ica, the floats drove by the home stands, where they were judged. The Senior Class won, with its FARRELL ' S float. Governor Godwin, through the dili¬ gent efforts of Ken Barnes, President of the Class of ' 76, came to the Mount Vernon field house last June 14 to address the graduating seniors. Not only was Godwin ' s visit an honor for the seniors, it was an honor for the Governor himself. While leaving the fieldhouse, Godwin remarked to an usher that he was quite impressed by the polite, attentive attitude of the seniors, and quite moved by the af¬ fection they exhibited for the school and for each other. Truly, graduation from Mount Vernon was a poignant experience.
