Our Debate Club is a very active group of students who participate in panel discussions and debates on current subiects with other schools. The Debate Club does research for its arguments in the Library of Congress, followed by pizza and la sagna at Luigi's. Also, the club each year has a theater party and sponsors a trip to New York City. This year, Mount Vernon's Debate Club won both negative and affirmative arguments in all their debates along with first-place in the pre-tournament series. The first full-length debate for our students was well-received when an affirmative and negative team debated before all those of the student body who could attend in the auditorium. The Club officers are: Edith Petersilia, president, Ray Barnes, vice- president, Kathy Meyer, secretary, John King, treasurer, Ronnie Keener, president of the Northern Virginia Debate League, and Mr. Bert Cohen, sponsor. zz

MARY RUTH O'NEIL Sponsor Quill 8 Scroll The Quill and Scroll is an international honorary society for high school iournalists. Members of all high school publications are eligible to ioin if they meet the qualifications set by the Society and the publication sponsor. To ioin the Society, a student must be a Junior or Senior, in the upper third of his or her class, honest, dependable, and cooperative, doing above average work on the publication, and passed by the National Quill and Scroll.
