Below: By recording all that goes on, Secretary Linda Ber- geson contributes her part to the Senate. It Takes Man to Make It Go Legislation and the representation of students were the primary concerns of the MVHS Sen- ate. Nearly thirty student senators partici- pated in daily business meetings where legis- lative bills dealing with improvements and changes of the school were debated, passed and failed. Patterned after the national legis- lative body, the Senate provided great first hand experience in the processes of Demo- cratic government. Senators learned to write bills, procedures of formal business meetings and the art of compromise. The efforts of Vice President jeanne Cushman and advisor Dave Cornelius made Senate one of the best learn- ing experiences MVHS had to offer. In addition to legislation the Senate fostered school spirit in ways not earth shaking, but vital. The group sponsored a Homecoming float, officially commended the Homecoming committee, and provided entertainment through films and assemblies. Seven judges selected by President Mark Lange and the Senate made up this year's judicial Board. To these people was delegated the responsibility of interpreting the MVHS constitution and deciding cases concerning violations of it. Chief justice Roger Valentine headed the Board composed of judges Nancy Brummitt, jeff Harris, Mitch johnson, jean Larson, Martin Speedy, and Silvia Torres.
