Four days packed with excitement, competition, and hilarity marked Homecoming, 1972. Under Chairman Mark Roetcisoender, classes plunged into activities with spirited determination and enthusiasm. Beginning with the tradition of Lettermen's Day, the more imaginative side of dress came about as the week progressed. Greeted by peppy painted windows at the cafetorium, students began Monday with the tense excitement of Coronation. To the strains of Only a Beginning, played by the MVHS stage band, Queen Linda Patterson was spotlighted into the scarlet and pink bedecked gymnasium. Tuesday was Stunt Day, when a colorful mob including hopeless cripples, Indian squaws, gang- sters and squash heads lined the track as Seniors showed their superior strength in the car push. Things got a little wet as classes combatted in the Tug-of-War scheduled for Black Day. Threats of water spray and some slippery footwork didn't dampen the spirits for the Juniors, who managed to come out on top. Although the annual bonfire was canceled, Wednesday night's Serpentine proved to be just as wild and fun as in previous years. Heralded by the band truck, royalty, and cheerleaders, the students wound through downtown Mount Vernon and made their way to the school, excitement mount- ing for the approaching game. Talent and creativity reached its peak in Thurs- day's assembly with a variety of entertaining skits and activities. Godfather Jerry Rodriguez and his family charmed their audience with a catchy por- trayal of the Mafia mob at its cruelest. For the third year in their High School career, Seniors captured the prize for best class yell, Urine Bulldog Country. Following the assembly, the carefully secreted floats were revealed, with Sophomores coming out the winners. The royalty car led the parade through Mount Vernon, with the Boys' Rally Association bringing up the rear. 13
