Jim Duffy, Ed Watson, Jim Eisses, Leland Shinn, Gerald Hamburg, and many other fine football players were worthy of the honor. Leading the student body at all athletic events were song leaders: Mary Jo Gardner, Evelyn Alseth, Sheila McDonald, and Nancy Collins. Yell leaders were Sara Comings, Chuck Cass, and Joyce Pearson. Juniors, all, and they served their school well. During the holiday season the annual Junior Thanksgiving Assembly was another success and brought out the theme of Count Your Blessings. lt wasn't a White Christmas but it was a merry one when the Juniors turned out in full force along with Mr. Joe Murphy to carol for the town hospitals and the rest home. Oop Shoop! Basketball for '54 was upon us. More than one-half of the varsity squad was made up of Juniors who had a major responsibility in getting the Bulldogs to the District Tour- nament. The class was also very proud of its wrestler, Les Stimka, who won the state champion- ship in his weight. When the strains of l'Take Me Out to the Ballgame rolled around the Juniors again gave more than their share of players to a baseball team that, with their help, won first place in the county league. The Junior year was not only eventful in athletics but also in drama, music and scholastic attainment. Many Juniors had parts in the all-school plays. Many were in the choir, orchestra and band, and more than forty students still remained on the Honor Roll! S-H-B-O-O-M-M-Ml Seniors at last! Roll on to Victory was the theme of our '54-'55 football team made up mostly of Seniors. Jim Eisses and Ed Watson were especially honored when they were placed on the All-Northwest Foot- ball Team. Two county schools joined the M.V.H.S. Seniors for their fabulous Senior Ball Winter Won- derland that was held November 26. Elected from Mount' Vernon for king and queen were Ron Tarry and Mary Lynne Affleck. Merry Christmas to You was heard far and wide at M.V.H.S. as the Seniors put on their Senior Assembly. This was really a real gone assembly and the Seniors had as much fun put- ting it on as the student body had watching it. As basketball season rolled around, the Seniors realized that it wouldn't be long before they would be saying So Long to everything at old M.V.H.S. The class of 55 had nine players on the Varsity team, and with the other players, they really made a great team. The class of l955 had more than forty students in Torch Society, which was one of the largest memberships in the history of the school. They also had many members in Thespians, Quill and Scroll, Band, Orchestra, and all the other school clubs. Guiding the class through its last busy year were: president, Mark Peterson, vice-president, Dal Wylie, secretary, Carolyn Sharp, treasurer, Janet Poppe. Class advisors were: Mr. Malcolm Thomson, Mr. Rex Coslor, Miss Dana Johnson, Mrs. Marie Wick, Mr. Jack Croghan, Mr. J. Turner Pedersen, and Mr. George Mowrer. May 26 and Commencement found each senior wishing he could Turn Back the Hands of Time. Valedictorian John Torgeson and Salutatorian Jim Eisses were honored at traditional graduation exercises, and the next day the class of 55 bowed out, wishing teachers and stu- dents the best of everything and a wee bit tearfully asking Please Remember the Class of 1955.
