MT. VERNON STUDENT COUNCIL UNLOCKS THE WORLD The words of the theme song, You Are the Key. written by seniors Nikki Crum and Mark Albin summarize in a superb way the ideas expressed at the convention and should serve as a guide and inspiration to all of us. 12 Student Council Convention Over 150 Mount Vernon Senior High School students, 20-25 faculty members, many people at the University of Southern Indiana, and many adults in the Mt. Vernon community worked together fo provide the keys to the fantastic Student Council State Convention. The convention was held at the campus of the University of Southern Indiana, October 12 and 13 of 1985. Student Council representatives from all over the state of Indiana now know MVSHS EXISTS! They were all impressed and MVSHS should be proud! There were many keys to the near perfect State Convention. Among them were setting goals, planning, working together, organizing, working until the job was done right, not giving up. praising one another, helping one another, spending the time and effort necessary to do a good job. and not being satisfied with mediocre results As many students found out. working together and getting along were not difficult. An expression of warmth and kindness was shown by MVSHS students toward their fellow workers. The key-note speaker, Mark Scharenbroich. inspired everyone present to grow by visualizing the positive aspects of life and encouraging the 'T CAN philosophy Some of his many challenges are paraphrased below They carry out the theme of the convention, Unlock the World . . You Are the Key. — Tell yourself what you want, not what you do not want — It is not how other people see you. it is how you see yourself. — Take risks, do not be afraid to be different or that you will be laughed at. — Make a dream list to guide your daily, weekly, yearly activities Nurture these dreams daily. DO IT NOW. — Discover the silver coins underneath, as well as on the surfoce — Move away from an I wish list to an I am list. — Adopt the I can attitude, eliminate I can't from your vocabulary.
