Miss Helen Belleville has completed a twenty-three year teaching career. The Mt. Vernon High School art teacher has retired to seek a position in the travel field. Miss Belleville will organize trips and vacations for travelers and is interested in guiding tours for a travel agency. She will also continue her own creative work in art. Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, her career has literally taken her around the world. She has traveled extensively in the United States, England, and the Far East. Miss Belleville served six and one half years in the United States Army Nurse Corps, where she attained the rank of Captain. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from George Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee in 1963 and her Master's Degree from the University of Evansville. Miss Belleville began her teaching career in an elementary school in Ladue, Missouri as an art teacher. She then came to Mt. Vernon and spent ten years teaching art to elementary students at West, Marrs, and Farmersville schools. For the past eleven years, she has taught art at Mt. Vernon High School. Active in civic and professional organizations. Miss Belleville, has participated in the Evansville Arts and Education Council, United Arts of Greater Mt. Vernon, Art Education Association of Indiana, National Education Association, and is a charter member of the Alpha Chi chapter of Alpha Delta Gamma. The decision to leave the high school was a hard one for her. I've agonized about the change for a year now, she said. She also said she would never shut her students out and those who seek information will always find her willing to help. The students shall miss Miss Belleville, especially those who had her for a teacher. We all hope she has a very happy retirement and great success with her new travel career. Bon Voyage, Miss Belle- ville. Miss Helen Belleville Observing Lending a helping hand An expert opinion Lecturing class 10 Dedication

FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENT From quiet homes and first beginnings Out to the undiscovered ends There's nothing worth the wear of winning But laughter and the love of friends.” — Belloc. Well, what am I going to say about my year? It's impossible to put all that A.F.S. is into a few words. There have been a few tears but. a lot of laughter, a little loneliness but. a lot of love. All in all. A.F.S. has helped me grow as a person in more ways than one. The people at Mt Vernon High School have been great; South Pacific” was wonderful, and so were the people in it. There are a few people who have been amazing, and they know who they are I've been asked a lot of questions concerning New Zealand People ask if I speak German (I must admit, I did take conversational German this year). They ask if I visit Switzerland often, and some other even more incredible questions. I've actually introduced a completely new country to a few. School has been different for me. Starting at 8 10 was a bit of a shock to my system as was only having a half hour for lunch! In New Zealand, we start school at 9 00. have a half hour interval at 10:30 and then have lunch from 12:00 to 1:00. School work here is relatively less difficult than it is in New Zealand. Although you have more homework, study is more comprehensive, and there is a lot more pressure in our whole system At age 15 you are eligible to leave school. If you pass University Entrance you are eligible to attend any University in our country. The exams are generally 3 hours long for each subject. Our high schools have one more year than here. Our year starts in February and goes till the end of November. We have a trimester system. TINA WRAY Vegemite sandwiches and my New Zealand accent have caused much laughter and lots of good times I believe I've learned to speak Southern American, with some help from my Drama class. I could not have found a better family to live with, they have been wonderful I think this town and the people in it have a great deal to share with the world around them. I'd like to see some more M.V.H.S. students apply for A.F.S. I'd like to see them share their wonderful culture and backgrounds with other people around the world. I feel the only way to promote peace throughout this world is through understanding each other. That is what A.F.S. is all about I've learned much about America but most important of all about Americans. This is and has been a year in my life that I will never forget. I will never forget my Mount Vernon family and friends. I would like to think that I have left a little of New Zealand's culture in at least a few people's hearts.
