THEN, WE WERE JUNIORS, AND WE: opened the doors of our school to Kiyoshi Sawamura, a foreign exchange student from Japan saw history in the making via television when Colonel John Glenn orbited the earth sported our new class jackets down MVHS halls (wasn't everyone green with envy?) witnessed the comeback of the Mt. Vernon High News grumbled and mumbled about the new Progress Report Cards peddled magazines and pushed our sales up-up-UP to a record breaking total of $4362. 28 gobbled turkey as our reward at our Victory Banquet celebrated the first birthday of our new school received our gorgeous class rings ! finally ! cruised down the river aboard the Chaperon for our first Prom (It was almost sub-zero weather and most of us felt like sardines. Nevertheless, we enjoyed it.) participated in two new sports, wrestling and cross-country (we were quite good at them, too !). Remember? It was that wonderful school year 1961-62. IT WAS THE FOURTH AND FINAL YEAR WHEN WE: returned as 119 Seniors to conclude our high school career elected a football queen watched the birdie as our pictures were snapped rooted at ball games as the Booster Club was organized once again added to the Christmas spirit as well as to our treasury by our record- breaking Christmas card sales were subject to a few more bomb scares shivered in the coldest winter of ten years and missed two days of school because of snow were measured for our caps and gowns elected a basketball queen awaited the arrival of Babcock and Wilcox Company performed in the Senior Play danced and romanced at the Prom--an experiment of the first open prom bought and sent Senior announcements journeyed on the traditional Senior Trip played hookey for a whole week attended our Baccalaureate ceremony marched in the long gray line on the date of Commencement--May 24, 1963. Remember? It was our Senior year 1962-63. We did all these things--and more. We are like other high school students, yet we are different. We are the Class of 19631 17

SENIOR CHRONICLE IT WAS THE YEAR 1959 WHEN WE: entered the old high school as Freshmen carried on the activities of Freshmen (only WE did more) first experienced the split noon-hour stepped up and elected a maid-of-honor for football (the upperclassmen didn't think we could do it) had concessions at all four of the home basketball games launched a chili supper, making us the richest MVHS Freshman class ever had our first bomb-scare (remember standing outside for nearly 2 1 2 hours?) went to our first all-school party, the Hobo Hullabaloo became a member of the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference took our first final exams, and learned what cramming really was saw the foundation for the new high school beginning to take form won the Holiday Tourney at North Posey. Remember? It was that wonderful school year 1959-60 IT WAS IN THE FALL OF 1960 WHEN WE: returned to the old school as Sophomores had two noon releases at first--then it was changed to three (and some of us ate three lunches, did you?) elected another maid-of-honor for football attended a seasonal party, Winter Wonderland moved into the brand-spankin’ new school on M-Day, Dec. 5 !!! excited by its magnitude enthralled by its beauty and efficiency saddened by the thought of leaving an old friend and memories of her that we will cherish forever saw the New Year arrive-- Then it was 1961 and we: presented a Donkey Basketball game (didn't we pack ’em in?) substituted a Valentine Tea Party for an afternoon of school were invited to another all-school party, April Showers stuffed ourselves at the Student Council's first Smorgasboard recognized the arrival of the General Electric Company. Remember? It was that wonderful school year 1960-61. Suddenly it dawned on us that we were half way through.. .little did we know that the last two years would pass even faster than the first two. 16
