4 ✓ 1 ■v THEY MADE HISTORY. they had everyone in the whole area buying years' subscriptions, — and the results? They topped all previous sales! The juniors, especially the girls, really liked the Hobo Party that year. Since no ties and coats were necessary, they had no trouble making the guys take them. The 'King of the Hoboes' was a junior, naturally. By this time, they were pretty spoiled--having already had two maids-of-honor. 1959-60 basketball season was no exception, and the junior queen candidate was elected their third maid-of-honor. Spring brings April; April brings love. And that's not all it brought the spring of '60. Class rings arrived on April 27. Mom says the girls used real strategy to win the guys' rings. But she got Dad's, finally. There are other memories for that April 27. It was also the date of their very first prom. Their trip Around the World in Eighty Days was really only a four hour excursion down the Ohio on the Streamer Avalon. Even Dad says they had a wonderful time, and he hates to go dancing. He doesn't say so, but Mom knows it. The senior year was launched into orbit on the very first day, and the officers elected the previous spring were all ready to begin duties. The football queen was the first of the Class of '61. On November 29, 1960, the MVHS team met that of North in the new gym. The students were sad as the Wildcats were defeated, but shone with pride of their team and their beautiful new hardwood. The seniors were honored again by the first queen in the new gym. The Christmas card sale was a little disappointing. Dad seldom mentions it, but I know they didn't quite reach the goal. December 5, 1960 was a drizzly, cool day. But the spirits of the MVHS students were as sunny as July—they were moving at last! A march from the old building to the new on Harriet Street was a his- torical event, the official occupation of the new MVHS. Dad says senior activities kept him 90 busy, he didn't realize how near graduation was. Suddenly, they were presenting Ask Any Girl as the senior play. Then their last prom was only a memory. And Baccalaureate was soon past. Senior week, the final week of class fun, was there and, it, too, was suddenly gone. Dad says he'll never forget commencement. He says, although he wouldn't admit it then, that he had a lonely, empty feeling as he walked up to receive his diploma. Mom and the girls all had tear streaked faces. I don't see why they'd cry on a happy day like that, but Mom says I'll understand someday.
